Outlet and Switch Spacers for Thick Back-Splashes We needed a way to secure outlet and switches in the thick new marble kitchen back-splash during a kitchen remodel. These IDEAL brand spacers (see 1st photo) were just perfect for the job along with some extra length screws. Each spacer (see 2nd photo) has three slots for passage of the securing screw. This facilitates variation in the access hole cut in the marble, which varied in each of our outlet/switch locations. In fact, in one application, I had to turn the spacer block side ways to make it fit. The 3rd photo shows the depth of the marble back splash and the stacks of spacers needed to shim out the outlet flush with the new back splash front surface. Note that much longer than normal length screws were required. The 4th photo shows detail of the stack of about 9 spacers. Also note I had taped around the outside of the outlet contact points to reduce the chances of touching one of the contact points. I am very happy with the security the spacers brough to the effort, as the outlets and switches are nice and tight in place as they should be. Sorry for the absence of three of the referenced photos, but the format here only allowed one. So, I only posted the most important one here.

Works well. Sometimes it's too thick. You have to cut pegs to prevent skew. These spacers are a good solution to level wall outlets and switches.

Picked these up becaue an outlet was way recessed in the outlet box. And when i plugged the cord in, the face plate would break. Only used two strips.

Package states that "each spacer is 1/8". However, this is not true. The spacer thickness including the pegs appears to be exactly 3/16" and the segment thickness alone appears to be exactly 3/32". This is important to know because for my application one spacer per screw was all that was needed--two devices/4 screws total. However, the pegs created too much thickness so I had to shave off the pegs from each spacer using metal files (see photo) so that both sides were flush to reduce the overall thickness. Each caterpillar strand contains eight spacers. Might I recommend that every other spacer not have molded pegs to provide more thickness options.

There sure are times that these are needed. After drywall and some new and existing outlets needed to be wired I used some of these to flush the outlets out so that they would look nice and neat and be sturdy and secure. I have used these for quite a few years, and I really like them. Better then some that use some wood shim stock to flush the outlets. I always keep some on hand. When the outlets and switches are nice and flush the job looks better and more professional.

These worked out great! Thanks to veteran helper for suggestion I used this product.

I purchased a cabin that had several outlets that were installed too deeply into the finished wall to apply switch and outlet covers. We were able to use these spacers to force them forward slightly - inexpensive and practical solution without having to tear out the outlets.

These spacers were a must-have for our kitchen backsplash project! I did the whole kitchen (6 outlet plates and 3 double switch plates) for less than $8.00 with tax and still had about a third left over.

This is perfect for old outlet boxes that have the outlet sunk inside, especially if drywall was added without adjusting the old outlet box depth... excellant product.

The spacers are cheap but very effective solutions to switched and outlets that are deep inside the wall.

A very simple solution to a homeowner hassle. Made my outlet flush with the wall in seconds. Simple to use, 2 minute installation.

I've used these types of spaces for years at many of my rental properties. Many people don't bother with them, but I think they help sustain the value of the property.

This is a plastic bag with 25 pieces of plastic. Making injection mold of parts is really an expensive after you get the mold made. I'm sure there are millions of these bags being sold annually. This is really overpriced at $12 a bag

I like the way they fold into each other so you don’t have to cut all of them apart. I only had to cut every three spacers.

Very easy to use and helped to allow some outlets sure flush to the wall.

Worked as designed. Outlet was not resting on the drywall (old house) and these allow me to shim behind to get a tight outlet. It no longer moves in the box making it safer for my family. Also it was easy to divide the spacer just by cutting it where needed.

Ease of use. Flexibility in accommodating varying depth of gang box.

was a little hard to find in the store, but solved exactly what i needed.
