It didn't take too long to assemble as long as you have the right tools. The only reason for the 1 star off is because the flaps are really stiff and my tiny dog has a hard time opening them, I'm sure once she gets used to it it will be fine.

Sturdy pet door, easy install. I'd never used a jigsaw before and was able to install this in an aluminum/foam door. The directions are comprehensive and they provide a nice template. Haven't had this installed long (only 4 days), but I like the dual flaps, seems like a much better insulation than the single ones.

High Quality Pet Door
This pet door looks and feels high quality and with the dual magnetic flaps, it keeps the cold air out better than I expected. The installation was easy and the provided template was well thought of to ease the installation process. Overall I'm very satisfied with the purchase. Getting my dog to use the door took a good amount of training so be patient. I left both flaps open initially to get her familiar to use the door. Google "training dog to use pet door" to properly trail your dog. After 3 days of training, she loves the door and now easily moves in and out of the house.

    great doggie door
This door has a great appearance, and the magnets and seals around the flaps are good. The slider that closes the door fits and works well. My two dogs have been running through the door for at least a month, and it shows no signs of wear.

    worth every penny
my master put the template on the door while it was still in place, drilled four holes in the corners, broke out the jig saw and took a big chunk of wood out. then i watched him put the two halves together through the hole in the door and there it was with two windows two watch for squirrels through. then my master showed me what is was really meant for and yippy skippy i don't have to bother him now to go or come outside. i did notice that when the temperature got around 15 degree F. the plastic stiffened up just enough not to close correctly every time i went through other wise it really keeps the cold wind out and don't notice any draft coming through. i'm a free doggy now, thanks master

    Great pet door!
This was a very easy project for me to do. I had just finished installing my French doors so this was a breeze compared to that project. All I needed was a Jig Saw with a steel cutting blade, a 3/8" diameter drill bit, painters tape, a tape measure, a small tube of silicone and a screw driver to install this pet door myself. All you have to do is center the template on the door, meet the minimum height requirements and verify that the template is level. Then completely tape the template on its outer perimeter in place so when you cut with the jig saw you do not scratch up the face of your door. Then drill the 8 3/8" holes into the door and cut out the opening for the pet door. I didn't use the recommended 1/2" drill bit because if you center the 3/8" drill on the center point of the hole on the template then the bolt will go all the way through the door and into the threaded insert on the outside pet door. Once I had the pet door installed I added silicone to a few area's that had a gap between the pet door seal and the detail design on the door to seal up any air gaps. After installing the pet door I did have to remove the interior flap so my dogs could get use to going in and out of it and after one week I placed the second flap back on and they had no issues going in or out at that point.

    Nice dog door
I've never had a dog door before. So I did some research and decided to get the Extra Large Ruff Weather door with Dual Flaps. I have a metal door. I thought it was going to be very difficult to install. I watched an installation video, measured twice and installed it in about 20 minutes. It looks great. Now I just have to work on training my Goldendoodle to use the door.

Through Outside Wall with Minimum Effort
I installed the dog door through an outside wall without the expansion adapter. The outside wall was finished with plywood, foam insulation and vinyl siding. It was definitely a custom job. LOOKED GREAT when all was done. The double door worked so well for this application. I will defiantly use this door again. I will be installing a small shed / dog house on the outside so as to deter any raccoons from exploring inside my house. I chose to go through the wall as opposed the door because I did not want to interfere with the screened/storm door and the way the door was made left me with thinking through the wall would give me a better look. I was thinking of installing an inside cabinet with an additional door to keep the humans out!

a good dog door for the money so far, only had a month or so, the two flaps is a great idea
The first dog door I had did not last 2 month, the flap tore right off, note a different brand, this dog door seems to be a much higher quality, yes the frame is plastic but no problem to install, no problem getting our yellow lad the go in and out, we have only had it installed for about 6 wks, but so far very pleased with it, hope it continues to perform well and right now I expect it to. A word of advice to anyone thinking about getting a dog door, only consider the ones with 2 flaps

      Good product
This is a replacement door for one just like it that I installed approximately ten years ago, that has been used continuously by 3-4 dogs since that time. The floor of the door simply wore out, I had replaced the outside flap twice, in ten years, so overall this is a good product that lasts a reasonably long time with constant use by multiple dogs.

      A great purchase
I installed the dog door in the door from my back yard into the garage. The instructions were easy to follow and the full-size template made the measuring a no brainer. My two large dogs learned very quickly how to use it. I can now leave my dogs outside and know that they can get out of bad weather easily. The twin flaps keep the wind and associated cold weather out of the garage. I'm considering installing another one in the door from the garage to the house.

The super large dog is perfect for large breed dogs.
The dual flaps are perfect for keeping out cold air and breezes in the winter this is a must in the Northwest. At first I was worried that it would be junk for the price, but we are totally satisfied. It is made sturdy and will last a very long time. It was easy to install and it looks good too.

Why didn't I do this years ago?
So I have 2 adult Vizsla's, and a senior aged beagle. Finding a dog door tall enough to accomodate my male Vizsla was a challenge. He is about 26" to the shoulder, so I needed a taller door. This is the only one that is not over $400. However, this door is very wide. After I installed it, my wife joked that we should have just made the steel door into a dutch door, as this doogy door is so wide. On a 6 panel door, it basically takes up the width of the 2 lower panels, and is about the same height as the lower panels when installed. I only mention this, as you could easily climb through this door as a full sized adult, it is so wide. Shipping was very fast, and install was simple and straight forward. Hardest part was making sure that the bolt holes were "straight", as the bolts pass from one side of the door to the other. I found it easier to install the template on the door, while the door was still on the frame, so I could match the template up, and see how it fit in relation to the height of my dogs. After taping the template on the door, I removed the door from the hinges, and put it on my work bench to do the cutting, and drilling. I put the door about 4" from the bottom of the door, as per the instructions included. When cutting with your saw, make sure you wear goggles, and have a blade meant for cutting metal. I had a wood blade in, and it was a tough job. After cutting one section, I promptly switched to a metal cutting blade, and it was simple. Installing the doggy door itself, after cutting the hole, was much easier with an assistant. My wife held the doggy door frame in on one side, while I installed the other, and attached the bolts. Once installed, and tightened, everything was snug, and airtight. I did run a bead of caulk around the edges on both sides, just for peace of mind. None of my dogs have ever used a dog door, so it took some coaxing with treats to get them to go in and out a few times. After that it was second nature, and I no longer have to get up at all hours of the night to play doorman for my dogs. Double flaps are great. I notice no drafts, or loss of heat in the room whatesoever. Safety lock is easy to install, and remove, for the times you want to keep the dogs in or out. Very happy, and would reccomend to anyone.

Much better than the single-flap style door
Bought this to replace the "classic" single flap door we previously installed. Would be nice if it used the same door opening, this one was slightly narrower and taller. The double flap provides FAR better weather tightness, the old single flap leaked like a sieve. This door will pay for itself in heating/cooling savings. A short adjustment period for the dogs, it is a little harder for them to get through, but no issues now. I would prefer a metal frame, but the plastic is ok.

      GOOD FOR THE PRICE
Home depot has about the lowest price going for this door. I have 2 of these. Considering they're used many many times each day by 2 dobermans and a amstaff I would say they've held up fairly well. In my situation the flaps have about a 6 month life span before the metal strip at the bottom is bent beyond repair and the magnetic strips probably last about 2 years. I would give it maybe 5 out of 10 for weather protection since the flaps don't seal all that well after the're broken in. This is a replacement for a 6 year old door that is no longer cost effective to rebuild. Overall good value for the price.

      Does the job
The door was relatively easy to install - as expected. I had to order the super large size (15x23.5) because I have a Pyrenees/St. Barnard mix. He's a big boy, but fits through just fine. The door is huge! So it adds a lot of light to the room. It does allow for some fresh air flow, but isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I live at 9000' and we have some cold and windy days. The room does get colder now, but it's worth it and I installed it in a room I can close off from the rest of the house. The wind has had no effect on the flaps. Overall, I am very happy with with door and that my guy can come and go as needed.

      Great Product!
This was my first on-line purchase from Home Depot. Initially I was concerned about the product price, quality and installation difficulty. This turned out to be a great product! Except for this Super Large Ruff Weather Pet Door, the only other products I could find with a large enough opening cost $300 and up. The price of this one makes it a very reasonable and good buy! It arrived 5 business days after I placed my order. It was packed very well and arrived in great condition. There are two separate surrounds made of very thick, and durable plastic. Both of them have a thick magnetic flap attached. The product comes with a stencil to outline the size of the opening to cut. We installed it into a wall and did not buy the wall insert which is sold separately. Instead we cut and glued metal pieces over the 4 sides of the wall opening. Both surrounds have a lip which fit nicely over the metal lining. Then we screwed the surrounds into the wall studs and caulked the edges. Installation was not difficult at all and it looks nice. Our huge Alaskian Malamut easily fits through! I'm happy to see he has no difficulty going in or out. Each of the flaps drop down and the magnetic strips secure them in place to keep out the cold winter air. The flaps should be easy to remove and replace if they should ever wear out. They are attached to the surround with screws. My next search will be whether or not replacement flaps are available. I don't anticipate they will be needed for quite a while!

      Solid construction
I was replacing an old Johnson XL metal unit where flaps were no longer available. This door is a little bit narrower, but several inches taller. Installation was very easy (less than 30 minutes with a drill and jig saw) although I am getting a new door to install it in as my wife didn't care for how I accommodately for the decreased width over the old one - about an inch. Having metal and going to plastic was a little concerning but I have no doubts after installation and use - very sturdy. My 2 german shepherds figured out the 2-flap system in about an hour with some help and they no longer stand half-way in half-way out letting in cold air. The seal is very good and the unit looks very professional. I've heard replacement flaps are about $40 each, but we were spending over $80 on the other so that's about the same. I'm hoping to get a couple years out of the flaps.

My son didn't have any problems installing it. The dogs love it. We have a large puppy. Initially, she was afraid of it. When my dauschound went in and out of it. The puppy followed her. After a few days she is a pro at going in and out the door. I like that we can close off the door at night.
