Hi! Thanks for reaching out. It is unusual that the InSinkErator stopper won't fit into the sink opening if you're using an InSinkErator sink flange. The stopper should fit into an opening of 3.5 inches in diameter. While they do stop water and food particles from going down the drain, stoppers are not designed to hold water permanently.
