I ordered this because the reviews were good, and I was tired of the chunks of sticks in the Miracle Grow S. Starter. I always microwave my potting and seed start soils, cooking 4 quart bags at a time. (I’ve heard storries of people that got flies or mold in their mix). I was happy as I ran my fingers through the mix! Nice, fine, smooth, and silky!! Did detect one or two lumps of wood. I hydrate my mix in batches amounts that I plan to use at one session, with hot faucet water (NY, some of the best water). I was suprised how quickly it hydrated! Less than half the time of other mixes. After about two minutes, I got 1 drop when sueezed. I added a bit more water, mounded the mix, covered it with plastic to let it hydrate more for 15-30 min. About 15 min, it soaked up half the water I added, so tilted the tray to let excess water out. I made plugs and flats for the remaining lettuce, radish, and spinich to be planted. I was disappointed that there were more wood chuncks than i expected. Removed them by hand My lettuce is growing well, two months before last frost!! I’m taking advantage of global warming!

Great organic seed starter with a lot of peat moss and some percolite. Holds water very well and provides a good medium to start seeds in. It is a bit messy and takes awhile to soak in water but works great. I have used it for 3 years now with great success.

This seed starting mix is ranked #1 in my book. It's light and fluffy,which allows seeds to germinate easily with no top weight like other seed starting mixes. Would recommend this product to anyone. Rather your a Master Gardener or Novice!

This Jiffy Seed Starting Mix is the best that I have found for starting seeds of all kinds. Have tried two other "name" brands with so-so results on one and absolutely terrible on the other. These other two had added fertilizer, which is not really necessary for seed starting and can be a minus. It's kind of hard to show this product in action, so the photo attached is of the results. This is the second batch of spinach started in the Jiffy mix. Normal germination is 7-10 days, both batches came up in four days. The photo is of five day growth. There is no soil or added fertilizer in this product. A lot of reviews have stated that the product is hard to wet. That's due to the peat moss and coir. Just measure out what is needed and add warm water (stir in thoroughly) until mixture clumps in your hand, loosely at first. Add a little more warm water and stir. Clump again until a little firmer. Do not make it dripping. Put the medium into pots and plant according to depth instructions. I have grown tomatoes, green beans, zucchini, peppers, watermelon, onions, peas and corn inn this starter for years with excellent results. Just wish my local Home Depot store would start stocking this again as I bought two bags online through their website. Overall, it's a great product, at least for me. Will definitely purchase again.

This is not the first time I've used this seed starting mix. I is great for germinating seeds into seedlings. Potting soil is not the same stuff. Being a farmer, I've tested this mix and others and this one gives me an almost 100% germination rate. The only thing negative I would have to say is I wish they would make a bigger bag. If you are starting seeds for the first time, this is the mix for you. It's easy!

I’ve always used Miracle Grow Seed Starting mix and had decent results but I’d thought I’d try this mix as I had seen some YouTube videos on seed starting and the growers were using Jiffy. What a difference! The seeds started in the Jiffy germinated quickly and grew stronger. I’ll never go back! Be sure to sterilize the mix with some hot water as like all seed starting mixes, you don't want a fungus gnat infestation.

This soil is great to start seeds in. You have to water it every day or it will dry out but depending on what you grow it helps you out so you dont have to buy a bunch of different soils. I grew zucchini (which like alot of water) and peppers (which prefer a drier soil) I watered accordingly and now my garden is blooming.

Ordered on-line, this Starting Mix did meet my expectations. However, it took me an extra trip to the store to get hold of it. Initially, I got an accessory item for a kitchen interior. It would help if folks at a warehouse could pay attention to what they are packing. My rating could be much lower because of this annoying error had the customer service at HD/Germantown, MD not made a special effort to redress the problem. My big thank you goes to them.

The texture and fine particle size of the Jiffy mix make this a great medium for starting small seeds indoors. Like most germination mixes, the medium has to be moistened thoroughly before planting. This moistening can require several gallons of warm water. I place the entire bag inside of a 5 gallon bucket and sprinkle in water until all the soil is moist to touch. Since my house is dry from the heating system, I always cover my flats with plastic until seed germination appears on the surface. Many seed germination mixes disappoint me with a muddy texture and coarseness from contaminating sticks and large pieces of spagnum moss. In contrast, the Jiffy mix is very high quality in terms of consistency.
