Don’t buy this
Like all the other reviews say it goes to low battery as soon as you set it up. Following the directions and the suggestions from the company on here does nothing. Remove the red cover and push the lever in flush. Waste of time and money when the manufacturer obviously knows there’s an issue with the device. Allowing these to be sold is a joke.

Hello Jim,
When installing your worry free alarm, the mounting bracket activates the battery. A helpful hint in activating the battery is to have the mount that the unit came with in one hand and the unit in the other. Put the unit on the mounting bracket and , like you are opening a child guard cap on a prescription, press the unit into the mounting bracket and turn. You will hear a "beep" when the battery activates. You can now finish the install of your worry free unit.

Our HVAC tech recommended a monitor in the room closest our natural gas furnace and detectors elsewhere in the house when we had our system serviced this spring. The nightlight is a nice bonus, the brightness is adjustable and can be set for automatic or always on. The monitor is supposed to alarm when detected carbon monoxide reaches a certain level, hopefully we will never have to find out how well it works. I will have to update my review after using the furnace this winter.

I've only had this a couple weeks, so I can't really judge this product's effectiveness, and hope I will never have to find out if it works. But I love the idea of a 10-year battery and the fact that it plugs in. Mine is plugged into an outlet that is horizontal to the floor, and the plug turns so that it can be plugged in vertically in a horizontal outlet. This all makes it very easy to use. So far, there have been no annoying false alarms at all Endless beeping is the worst thing any smoke/CO detector can do. When detectors constantly go off at random, I end up just disconnecting them.

I bought this detector for use in my bedroom. It plugs in to power outlet and has a permanent battery installed for backup. This detector will let you know when the 10 year life is up and it then needs to be replaced with a new detector. I also wanted the digital readout of the level of CO that has been detected. The voice alert is just a bonus although it does add to the price. I like that this plugs in to 120vac outlet so there is no need for batteries.

    Peace of Mind
Having a gas furnace and gas fireplace necessitates having a CO detector you can rely on. We have no way of knowing if our old CO detector is still functioning so it's great to have this one just in case. This one has a test function and battery back-up for ten years. There is a place on the side to note the date you will need to replace - good idea! We placed this in the hallway leading to all of our bedrooms and the dusk to dawn automatic night light is great too. There is a test button as well and this unit is very loud.

    AC Powered. No Worries
The Kidde 10 year worry free carbon Monoxide alarm is a great hallway detector. It is powered by AC with a battery back up. It also is equipped with a night light that auto-activates in low light conditions. It's simply plug and play, with a peak level test button. The auto dimming digital readout provides continuous monitoring of CO levels and adjusts brightness in low light conditions. This is not a smoke detector, but a great Carbon Monoxide alarm.

    Safety is Key
This is very nicely designed alarm and I have always trusted Kidde brand products. I placed this unit in the master bedroom as I already have a unit in my hallway. I really like the design of the night light which is very bright and a great size. I do have a gas fireplace in my home and have always felt that it is better to safe than sorry. The alarm is very loud and certainly will awaken you if asleep which is great as I am a light sleeper and feel this will notify me in a timely manner.

    Poor Directions and Design
I originally reviewed this, and did not 'recommend' it, and gave it 2 Stars. After reviewing it, I saw the major 'worry' I had with it, was addressed in the Q&A. When you get this, there is a red cap on the plug side. It states, "REMOVE BEFORE USE". Under the cap is a switch that sticks out a little less than the plug. When you plug in the alarm, the switch pushes in. I assumed, by the instructions, section 4, this activates the battery backup? Problem is, section 6 shows this switch as the Discharge switch, and the figure shows it still being out; it is to be pushed in to drain the battery for disposal at end of life. I had no idea, if it will pop out in 10 years, and then I push it back in, or if it is already discharging, or the figure is wrong and you have to push it in farther to discharge it? The Q&A states, 'If you push that button in further, it will permanently deactivate the alarm'. My remaining problem ... this is marketed as a Hallway Alarm. Hallways, by definition, are a passage between rooms, and typically have limited sunlight. My hallway has two windows, but the outlet is not near them. Even though the hallway has sunlight, the sensor is not sensitive enough to pick it up. So, the night light never turns off. If I put it on an extension cord, and bring it over by a window, the night light shuts off. I can switch the night light off, but at night I want it on. Hence the reason I bought the model with a night light. Either I have an extension cord in my hallway for 10 years, or a light that never turns off for 10 years, or switch it off and go buy another night light? I like that the plug rotates 90 degrees, and the night light is dimmable ... but the dual purpose kill switch needs better explaining, and the 'Hallway' light sensors needs to be more sensitive, or better yet, adjustable. If you have a sunny hallway, you will love it.

    Excellent carbon monoxide detector
I've had carbon monxide detectors for many years. The detectors I've had before have always been plug in models with a 9 volt battery backup. The 9 volt battery did a poor job as a backup and would quickly run out of power whenever there was a power outage so I was glad to see that this detector has a 10 year lithium battery so my concerns about the battery backup are no longer an issue. The installation for this detector is a simple matter of plugging it in and it is ready to go. It has a digital display that shows the carbon monoxide level in "parts per million" which allows you to see if there is any carbon monoxide present. The display has an auto dimming feature so it is not overly bright in a dark room. It also has a test button to see if it is functioning properly. I guess you have to take the test function as being correct since I'm not wiling to pipe carbon monoxide into the room to test it. This detector is listed as being ideal for bedrooms and they also have units that are for "living areas" but I'm not really sure what the difference is (they both seem to have the same features). The only difference I could detect is that this model has a voice alarm. I'm not sure if the voice alarm would be any more or less effective. Hopefully I'll never have to be woken up by it so I may never know. This detector is excellent for safety and peace of mind.

    FEEL SAFE!
We use propane gas to operate our furnace, water heater and kitchen stove top so it is important to have a carbon monoxide alarm. This alarm has a sealed 10 year lithium battery backup requiring replacement of the entire unit when that time period ends. It provides continuous protection/monitoring against CO poisoning. It features Auto Dim Digital Display, an AC plug-in and peak level/test button. At the end of life of the unit, a chirp will sound as an alert to replace the unit. There is a button on the back that you push to silence the alarm for 3 days. There is a low battery alert chirp as well, you simply push the test/peak level button to silence it for 10 hrs, so here will be no annoying continual chirping like smoke alarm batteries. The unit is quick and easy to install. Only have to remove the red plastic switch cover on the back and plug in. Made in China.

    Peace of Mind
The key words, as shown on the packaging and in the photo, are “Worry-Free”. Kidde has advanced the state of this type of product to the next level in at least 2 ways. First you will no longer have to replace batteries on a regular basis. This unit has a built in rechargeable battery that is supposed to last the life of the detector (10 years). This makes the detector more reliable. It also makes this detector more hassle free. You don’t have to remember to buy a battery and install it every year for 10 years. It also lowers the cost of owning the detector as batteries have gotten expensive. Secondly, you don’t have to remember what the beeping sequence means if the alarm should sound. The detector includes a voice alert that states Carbon Monoxide is present. You also won’t be awakened late at night by “low battery” chirps. When the detector is plugged into a wall outlet the battery is kept charged. The detector is easy to get set-up and running. Be sure to remove the red cap, as shown in the photo and video. Follow the easy to read instructions.

    Set it and forget it.
Well this makes it easy. Plug it in and the 10 year clock starts. Nothing more to do. This replaces an old detector that I had that was about 12 years old. I was wondering if it still worked at that age anyway so I'm happy to change it out. The night light is a nice addition. We have it in the hallway between all of our bedrooms and now at night this actually makes the hallway a bit safer without the need to kick on the main light. You can also adjust the night light brightness to 10 different levels. Hopefully I never truly need this but it is great peace of mind to know the family is protected just in case of a Carbon Monoxide situation. I obviously didn't test the alarms ability to detect Carbon Monoxide but I trust it's ready for action if needed. In addition, the alarm sound level is good. No issues there. I recommend. It's a trusted brand and that means a lot to me.

Better to be Safe From Carbon Monoxide Then Sorry
This is a reliable, good quality carbon monoxide (CO) alarm that is perfect to protect yourself and your family from the serious dangers associated with carbon monoxide in a home. The manufacturer provides very clear and detailed instructions to explain the proper installation, and operation of this carbon monoxide alarm and the hazards and symptoms associated with exposure to carbon monoxide. This carbon monoxide alarm is very simple to install, maintain and use and has a voice alarm, a very loud 85+ dB audible alarm beep and a visible alarm indicator that activate anytime a sensor detects dangerous carbon monoxide levels. This carbon monoxide alarm is designed to operate continuously for 10 years and has a non-replaceable internal battery to monitor carbon monoxide levels during power outages. This carbon monoxide alarm also provides low battery and end of life indications when the alarm needs to be replaced. Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless and tasteless gas that can be emitted from any device or appliance that burns a combustible fuel including heaters, furnaces, stoves, gas dryers, generators, grills, etc.. Devices or appliances that burn a combustible fuel can emit carbon dioxide indoors when they are not properly ventilated outdoors or from their outdoor exhaust vent not being open or becoming clogged or obstructed from debris or from snow accumulating too much around them, etc.. I installed this carbon monoxide alarm in a bedroom which also serves as a work at home office to detect any carbon monoxide emitted by a LP hot water heater and a kerosene fueled furnace in the event there is ever a fault with either of these appliances.

I plugged in and it gave me “low battery” error message. The manual said to replace the unit, so I took it back. Very disappointing.
