When rekeying the lock, if you move the small key just one bit (if it comes out a little) you are unable to rekey it and the old key no longer works with the lock. Basically leaving you with one choice replace the lock and no use for the old one because no key will open it. There is no way to reset it. Not exactly the best situation. Turns out it’s not so smart.

It was very easy to re-key to match my other locks.

I ended up buying two lock sets, the first one I miss read the Keying instructions and in advertently had to buy a new lock set to match my current lock set. My fault, but directions are poor at best.

The lock was an easy replacement for the one that broke. With the Kwik keg it was easy to use the same key as the original so I did not have to use a 2 different keys for the same door.

Replaced a single cylinder deadbolt on a door set with the double cylinder one since we have glass sidelights. It was easy to install and rekeyed to old keys. I would suggest looking at a You Tube video prior to doing.

Kwikset has engineered some good deadbolts here. Installed easily. Make sure you buy some keys for your new locks too. You can rekey the locks yourself with Kwikset keys. That too was very easy. Make sure you rekey both sides of the lock, as these are (like the Kwikset 665) double cylinder deadbolts. The 665 is an awesome value. If you want to pay more this one gives a few +1s to security. It has screws that you can't unscrew once they're in. I took the chance and everything worked great. I'd still use the regular screws if you have no experience. You can always put the thief-proof screws in later after you know the lock is functioning flawlessly. The employees at my Home Depot store are helpful and kind, and human. That means a lot these days. Thanks!

After issues and 4 hours trying to install it, it won't work. Called kwikset who said they would replace it, and emailed back we need to install it over again.

The smartkey feature allows me to use the same key in multiple locks in my home. This feature is a must for me. The installation is easy for a door with the necessary holes pre-drilled.
