While assembling to a whip for a 6kw garage heater, the ground clamp screw stripped. The clamps do not accommodate stranded wire well. My whip wire gauge is #8, and the clamps still couldn't hold onto the wires. I had to solder the wires to get any clamping force on the wire. I will be replacing it soon with a premade whip for NEMA 14-30P. Also, if your wire bundle is less than 1/2" dia, it simply won't clamp down to provide a strain relief. Do Not Buy

Good quality and easy to use. I used it to make a 250 volt extension cord with a #12 American Wire Gauge.

An adequate plug, with pins included to make it either a NEMA 14-30P or a 14-50P. The case feels a little less robust than some other models, but it works and is made in a way that's very easy to hook up.

I purchased two different brands of this plug (the other one from a different supplier), however this was the only one that had the capability of different gauge entry wires which was critical. The shell is strong and the prongs solid with an option for the different ground prong. I definitely recommend this plug.

Right product at the right at a fair price

Got this so I could make my new garage heater work with my NEMA 14-50 outlet. My heater doesn’t use neutral and pulls only 23 amps, so I just left the neutral blade out entirely (which makes the plug work in both 14-30 and 14-50 outlets). I had two problems - (1) the terminals seem to be designed for thicker gauge wire. For thinner wire, you will probably want to make a longer wire strip and do a “J” hook around the screw as if you were wiring a 120v receptable, otherwise it will not be clamped very well and you may possibly have overheating at the terminal. (2) The thinner cord my heater has was too small for the strain relief insert, even when used at its tightest setting. I had to drill holes in the plug and use a cable tie to create my own strain relief.

As far as the product goes. It's kind of cheesy. If you're in a bind it would work well. But for the cost... honestly, I took mine back and went to (the other home improvement store) and bought one that was a little better quality. Don't get me wrong, this plug will work as it says. You just have to put it together, but it just feels cheaply made. If I would have kept it, I would have given it five stars.

Easy to hook up, versatile, works good. This plug will work with a R.V. receptacle found in most R.V. garages. But I used this plug to hook up a welder, works fine.

This product is reconfigurable, which makes it a little hard to use. The quality suffered a bit because of the reconfigurability. Next time I'll spend a little more and buy a single-configuration device with a more robust design.
