this is a low cost interior door which does exactly what it should. If you cut 1" off of the bottom you will lose the bottom rail. What you do next is peel the masonite off of the cut off rail. then put some wood glue on the sides and re-insert it in the bottom of the door then clamp. hope that helps.

    Pathetic
If I were Masonite I'd be ashamed to put my brand name on this door. If I were Home Depot I'd be embarrassed to have this door in my store for my customers. I bought the door knowing it had a hardboard surface. I needed to cut 1" from the length of the door. When one does that the entire bottom rail is removed, it's only 3/4" thick. Also the top and bottom rails are not wood, they are cardboard. A drill bit will not cut through it like it does wood.
