Purchased mine refurbished and arrived perfect with no cosmetic or functional issues. It still learning but with my constant changes in temp daily it might take some time. Easy to install with live chat available if assistance needed. I was worried about my situation because of the old thermostat I previously had. I have yet to hit one month to see its effects on my gas bill. I would highly recommend it.

This was my second Nest (had put one in a previous home) and they are great. Replaced a very complicated Honeywell WiFi t-stat. Found that the previous owner had wired the old t-stat wrong and the instructions on the Nest website helped me correct that. Easily connected to Nest and Alexa app for voice control.

The build quality of this thermostat is top notch. We have an old boiler system which will be replaced in the next couple of months but needed a new thermostat. I wasn't sure if the Nest would work with our 40 year old boiler system but decided to give it a shot. It took a little research, and trial and error to figure out which terminals to connect our existing wires to but once I figured that out the Nest came to life. The set-up was super simple, and although we've decided not to connect it to the wifi network it seems to work flawlessly. I'm really impressed with this device. I hope we'll be a able to take advantage of the more sophisticated features once our new system has been installed.

Great price... $140 and an additional $25 mail-in-rebate from the utility provider... can't beat that. The package arrived in perfect condition, installation was a cinch (I do recommend that you verify if the Nest will be compatible with your home HVAC unit). I love the convenience, I love the features. The provided baseplate to cover the wall may not be sufficient all the time. But at least they provided that. If you got some fancy baseplates, it will cost you $50. Not the best spend of your money. Once i know Nest works as advertised and I am saving energy, then I will plan to upgrade the baseplate :-)

I purchased this unit over the weekend and had it installed yesterday. I'm in LOVE!!! I just brought my first home a few months ago and there was an old thermostat already there. It did the job but I had to constantly adjust the temp myself. The appearance is so sleek and modern. Not to mention I enjoy controlling the settings from my phone. I' d certainly recommend this model to all my family and friends. Not to mention Nest support was awesome. I called with a question during installation and the rep was very friendly and knowledgeable.

    It's great when it works!
The idea is great! controlling thermostat from afar and having it learn your routine/schedule. However, when it it continual turns off and restarts its self, seemingly dozens of times without cooling the house, for no apparent reason, it's north worth a cent! Purchased as a Christmas gift. Set it up prior to leaving on vacation for New Year's. Couldn't use it while away because the unit wasn't connected to the internet, even though everything else in the home was (apps controlled lights, security camera.) Yesterday, it started doing that same thing again: turn it self off and then restarting. probably 20 times in 60 minutes. It was 90 degrees outside, and then got to be 80 degrees inside. Customer service was a joke! I called. She wanted a picture of the wiring in case that was the problem. I had said it had been working for nearly 5 months and that it must be a software issue. But I took pic and sent to her. Then after she received it and looked at it, she wanted me to change the wiring around. I wouldn't do that. I told her that there's no way the wiring is wrong, "IT'S BEEN WORKING!" How can the wiring be wrong!?!? I asked her how long would it take to redo the wiring, she said at least 30 minutes. I'd already been on the phone for 20 minutes. "If that doesn't work, what's the next step?" Her response, "You'd be transferred to a specialist." Why can't I do that now??? I ended up saying it's not worth it, I'll go get another brand. Said good bye and disconnected the call.

Best for the price.. Worth it.. Saves a lot..
Nest uses various inputs to observe your day-to-day routine and uses them to maintain your HVAC schedule automatically, based on what it learns. (The company calls this Nest Sense technology. We'll cover it in more detail later.) Nest creates an auto-away mode based on what it's learned. This sets a temperature for minimal HVAC activity when you're not in the building. You can also set an away mode manually if you wish. While it's actively heating or cooling, Nest displays an estimated time for the system to reach the desired temperature. Nest displays a green leaf any time the thermostat is running at energy-saving settings. This can help teach you to make energy-saving decisions. For example, if Nest has learned that you typically run your AC until the house is 74 degrees Fahrenheit (23.3 Celsius), you could turn up the temperature until you see the green leaf to save energy. The leaf will always appear at cooling settings of 84 degrees Fahrenheit (28.9 Celsius) or higher and heating settings of 62 degrees Fahrenheit (16.7 Celsius) or lower, but its threshold will change based on your habits. Nest lets you know what activity (between auto-away, your own adjustments and the weather) resulted in the greatest energy savings throughout the day. Nest uses WiFi to connect to your account at nest.com. This feature allows you to monitor and adjust the Nest remotely from the Web site. Nest supports a mobile app available for Apple iOS devices (iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad) and Android devices. The app turns your mobile device into a remote control for your Nest. You can add Nest to any number of thermostats in a multi-thermostat building. They will work alongside other thermostats, but note that each of Nest's energy-saving features only applies to the rooms in its sensor range and to the HVAC components it controls. A Nest account can manage up to 10 Nest devices, whether they're in the same building or at multiple locations.

    Good deal on Nest Thermostat
This is the 1st Nest thermostat that I've installed as these were very expensive when I installed my first wi-fi thermostat. Thanks to HD for running a special on the Gen 2 thermostat. Really not much difference between this and the Gen 3. It's a nice thermostat and it provides lots of useful info including history so you can track when there was a call for heat. The only downside is that while the literature claims you can install without a "C" wire for power they don't explain that the thermostat steals power from your system by pulsing on and off. I would have not known if I didn't have an indicator light on my zone control. It was flashing after the install and I had to research why - fearing that I'd installed improperly. I ended up running a new 18/3 wire as I didn't want to risk a problem later on.

    Love it!
Be sure to read and follow the installation instructions. Good idea to take a photo of the wiring in your current thermostat prior to installation of the NEST. Really do enjoy the ease of use and the "tech" aspect of the thermostat. Can check the temp from our smart phone while away. We use the Auto-away feature, as well. Great to increase heat as we get close to home. The menu notes the outdoor temp of your home location, the day/time, the indoor temp and humidity. Also like the NEST feature of illuminating as you walk past. Also purchased the NEST smoke alarm/carbon monoxide unit. Easy to install. It will also illuminate as you approach. Would highly recommend NEST!

    Beware of these....
I had 2 of these installed for just over a year and a half. Numerous back plate failures and added repair costs forced me to remove these and find an alternative. (Ecobee) My HVAC equipment is the most basic and common- single stage, forced air heat and AC. I do have the notorious "C" wire for powering these units. Since the firmware update in Nov. 2014, they went offline much more often, which defeats the purpose of these when controlling remotely. If you're considering, do extensive research regarding failed FET backplates and the offline issues. $1500 spent for me that I'll never recover. Beware!

    I like my Nest
This was the first almost electrical product that I have ever installed. The written instructions were not easy for me so, I watched the videos. Took less than an hour to install and get configured. This is a cool product, I was able to check the home and outside temperature while out of town - can literally check the state of the system from anywhere with internet access. The Nest has only been in for about two weeks. I am anxiously awaiting the reports on energy consumption it will send me as well as notifying me on when to change my air filter. The great thing for me about this product is that when we go to bed at night it goes into an "away" status and lets the house cool off. I don't get hot air blown on my all night long as my previous thermostat wanted to keep the house warm all night so, I am sleeping much better. Of course, with the learning mode the Nest has it does know that I get up early and like the house at a certain temp and will start the heating in time for me not to be frozen.

    So Close to a Five
I am so close to a five on this one, but I have had some major issues with the Nest. Some of the issues I think may have been on us/the HVAC installer we used for installation, but they were major issues. We purchased two for our home; one for a regular heat pump and the other for a heat pump with a gas furnace backup. Pros: The Nest connected to our heat pump has given us no issues. Our heat pump is about 20 years old though and I have heard that they don't work as well on newer systems. The Nest thermostats look AMAZING and are really simple to program/use. Auto away kicks in at the right time and runs the program in the evening for us even when it still knows that no one is home yet. I also have it connected to my phone through the new google app connection which I believe contributes to that happening as my phone tells the Nest when I am on the way home. Cons: The Nest is pretty complicated to install properly. We had to pay an HVAC tech to come out and install it for our split system and since he was here we went ahead and had him install it on our regular heat pump unit as well. The tech we used has been working on our units for years (they are old) and even he had some issues connecting the system to the unit. Once he did though things went well, or so we thought. On our second bill we noticed a significant increase in our gas bills. Turns out the nest was kicking over to the gas furnace when it did not have to causing it to run and costing us lots of money. On especially cold days it would not kick over to the alt. heat, and we woke up on a few mornings to an ICE COLD house. When we called out a different technician we were told that there is a little known wire that wasn't connected properly and that some of the "older" techs may not know about the newer technology. Either way it cost me a lot of money to get these systems up and running. But now that they are, we can tell for sure that even though this has been a bitterly cold winter we are saving money on our gas/electrical bills. I would recommend the system to anyone who is into home automation, but cannot say enough to get a HVAC tech that knows these systems and how to connect them properly. Once that happens, you are going to love the system!

    Great Purchase! Saves Energy!
Was very pleased with my Nest purchase. It was simple to install, connected to my wifi right away, and began working within minutes. The "away" settings are great, and I love programming an entire week right from the app. It also now controls my HUE lights when i arrive home, so it keeps getting better.

    Easy install, Setup, and Use
If you're at all handy, this install is a breeze. I had hopes of not having to use the back plate, but the drywall had a few holes that were tough to patch and look good. Nest setup is easy as it walks you through a series of questions, followed by a period of learning, after which it builds out a schedule. The schedule can be adjusted later. I'm now curious as to how much coin this will save me. Stay tuned.

    Gorgeous AND Smart! Marry me?
We have two HVAC zones and needed two thermostats. We compared the features of the Lyric and other WiFi thermostats. This one seems to have fewer bugs, more features and the best support possible... not to mention it's sleek design makes me linger in the hallway staring at it :) Be sure to read the well-written, easy-to-follow instructions & give it a while to acclimate itself. LOVE that it comes with a screwdriver too! They thought of everything! There are a ton of things that "Work with Nest" that I'm excited to integrate. Wait... why am I writing this review? I don't really want anybody to know about how awesome this thing is but us!

    Everything I Wanted
The Nest takes time to adjust to your house and habits before it can fully utilize all the features it comes with. I've been using Nest for nearly three months, which is enough time for everything to adjust and work perfectly, but honestly, from day one I was happy with my purchase. There are loads of things I love about this device so far, so I'll focus on the highlights. The device was simple to install with very clear instructions, it even came with the nicest screws I've ever seen to install it with, which was kind of hilarious but a nice touch. A small bubble level is on the base of the device to help when mounting it to the wall. While my last thermostat had me screw in the wires to keep them in place, Nest features a little snap/clamp thing where you just need to press the button where the wire goes, slide in the wire, and release. Done. The whole device pops into place easily and even walks you through the account set up once it receives power. It came with a white rectangular faceplate at the bottom of the box which covers up the old holes from my last thermostat. This was a great edition because on one hand I love the sleek design of Nest, but since my last thermostat was a different shape, holes were going to be left in my wall. This nicely covered it up and left the area looking sharp. The device has a very sturdy design with glass and metal that will last probably forever. The screen turns off when not in use and will momentarily light up when something changes, like it if it turning on the AC. When you want to view the current temperature, you can just wave your hand close to the motion sensor or tap the bottom section of the circle to make the screen turn on. Nest does a very good job at learning your habits through a combination of using a motion sensor, light sensor, and your own manual adjustments to the temperature. Whenever I get home and walk by the thermostat, I hear my AC automatically turn on, which is exactly what I expect. I'm also easily able to access the Nest through an app on my phone, which means I rarely need to even touch the device. While the app has a myriad of features, my two favorites are the schedule and the energy history. There was a week where I was awake and working late every night and Nest noticed and made the AC turn on late at night when I was up. Afterward, I was easily able to click the timed event on the app and delete it. Extremely simple. The energy history feature on the app tells you every single time the Nest turned on the air and for how long. It also told me what the reason was if the AC was used more than normal, for example, it would say user adjustment or high or low weather. I also receive monthly emails about my energy usage. I love that the Nest takes into account when my house is in direct sunlight and what my local temperature. The little green "eco" leaf tells me what is the most energy efficient temperature for the circumstances. It doesn't always show up on the same temperature because conditions change that effect it's formula, which makes it easier for me to not think about it and trust my device to make things simpler. All in all, this is exactly what I expected from the device, and I was pleasantly surprised to get even more features than I originally thought. I installed it quickly, it started learning immediately, and has done a good job at saving me money already and paying for itself. I highly recommend this if your looking for a quick fix that will give you one less thing to worry about.

Wonderful piece of technology when it works
The Nest T-stat is a great addition to my tech junkie lifestyle but I had to return the 1st one because it would not work. I even had a pro attempt to install thinking I was doing something wrong. The second one did work though my pro told me that he has had to replace several at a time to finally find 1 that works. Once it was working it is great . . . Easy to set up . . . The I-pad and Android apps are fantastic! Here again . . . but there is an issue unrelated to the t-stat that has caused the manufacturer to take nest offline which makes this product about as useful as an old round t-stat. This product is amazing when it is working

A slick and money-saving device, fun to use.
The NEST thermostat was easy to install and actually fun to program. I did half of the initial programming on the device itself, the other half over the Internet with my laptop. It is also easy to override your settings at any time from your smart phone with the free iPhone app. I expect to save a fair amount of fuel oil because of this device and I recommend it highly.
