This is a great all purpose cement for PVC. It is a little bit "hot" for use in warm weather but still works fine as long as you realize that you need to put the fittings together and twist quickly. The real advantage is in cool and/or wet weather. Regular PVC cement is real slow to set and doesn't work at all well if the fittings are wet. The Blue Lava does fine even in wet conditions. If a water line breaks even in dry weather it is hard to get it completely dry and keep it dry for the repair with regular cement. With this cement a bit of water on the connection doesn't affect the joint.
No Leaks, works in the wet, doesn't need primer
As a DIYer I've wasted ALOT of time, money and hassle over the years - so trust me when i say this stuff is great!! I remember how excited and "amazed" with those Sharkbite pipe fittings - this Blue Lava is just as handy!! I used it on hard to reach pool pvc pipe and fittings in a very humid sticky climate and it worked Sooooo much easier than doing the whole pvc cleaner/primer/cement ( cheaper too). A "pro" may tell you otherwise; but i just cut the pvc to size, slathered this stuff on the pipe

This is a medium body pvc cement which you can use is wet and damp conditions. The "hot" cement sets up very fast and you can pressurize the repaired pipe in only a few minutes which is great. You can use it for pipe up to 6" which makes it the only glue you need to buy and use for most pvc applications.
The instructions state you don't need to use a primer first for non pressure DWV applications. Unfortunately our building codes call for using the purple primer/cleaner first.
This cement works great where you need to make fast repairs and need to pressurize the system in a short time. Sets up fast and you better be quick with your gluing parts together! I love it!

hardens too quickly and the left over in the can also hardens too soon for another project, as in a couple weeks. seems like the product is too thick as soon as I buy it, maybe it takes too long to get on the shelf at home depot. this is not the first time this has been a problem, I always have to be ready to use the cement right after I buy it.

I have been doing my own irrigation work for many years. I have glued hundreds of PVC fittings using Oatey products. Many times especially during repair, I did not use the Oatley primer product because I was out. Never had a repair fail, the product is that good. Same goes with their PVC Blue Lava Hot Cement. It sets up fast and holds well. Built in brush makes for easy installation.
