Not crazy about the mounting system.. basically a 2 x 2, won’t hold 20 pounds…mantle is fine, light sanding and staining made it very nice.

This was just what I was looking for. I liked that it was unfinished because I wanted to see how it looked over my fireplace before being committed to a color. As it turned out, I left it natural and only put two coats of varnish it it. It looks great!

It actually is a very nice piece of wood for a mantel. I am just so sorry that it did not work out for me. I would have had to make some modifications to it but it would not have looked the same. I didn't want to ruin the look of it. We thought it would work but not so~~ Very sad it did not.

The mantel is as expected, but the wood to mount...
The mantel is as expected, but the wood to mount the mantel is lacking. It is not long enough to go from one side of my fireplace to the other. So hitting studs is impossible. I had to go buy another piece that was 5’ long.

The first one we ordered came in with a split...
The first one we ordered came in with a split edge, but the second was just fine! We basically did a dark semi-transparent stain and it came out great. Sealed it with polycrylic. I definitely don’t recommend doing a normal dark stain… very spotchy. We did that at first and had to start over. If I had done my research about how to and how not to stain maple ahead of time, it would’ve been much faster!

The construction of this was disappointing, each seam had a lip so it didn’t look like one piece. Staple holes all across front. Called their customer service and emailed, no response.
