First time installing laminate, looked long and hard at the different options and selection and LOVED this flooring for its coloring, pattern, and the natural looking scrapes and scratches that made it look so real. I couldn't find it in any Home Depot so I could see it in person however, none of the stores had it at all so I took a chance on it and it luckily paid off. It was a bear of an installation only because I had never done this kind of thing before, but it turned out great and if you knew what you were doing it would be a lot easier. Here's some tips that may help you: -Buy a kit that includes a tapping block and mallet and as many spacers as possible. You will also do well to have a small pry bar or you will never be able to finish a row properly. The set I purchased had a two-sided mallet. The metal side was great for tapping boards together width wise, and the rubber side was ideal for hammering at the end of the length to seat the row together. I also had a more expensive larger rubber mallet which I used for hammering the board down and locking the tongues together. -The directions tell you to install the long end, then the short end. I don't know what they are smoking but that's impossible since the board has to be inserted at an angle. If you do it that way your row will continuously come up and lead to massive frustration. -Take the long end first, insert the next board and slide it down close to the last board in your row but far enough away that there is a gap (otherwise you will break the tongue when you lock the tongue in on the longer side). Then, use the tapping block to seat the board straight lengthwise and use a rubber mallet to hammer the board down. You really do have to use a lot of force, and you have to ensure that after you hammer it down and it locks that the board is completely seated, you can use the tapping block to hammer it in and make sure there is no space. -Then, hammer it from the short end into the short end of the last board in the row until there is no gap. -Then give it an extra wack or two to really tighten in the row. -Its useful to have a helper to tell you when to stop, without you can end up hammering too much and like I did at one point and ended up hammering a row and the spacer into the drywall. Without a helper you have to stop constantly to check which will slow you down. It's also helpful to have someone else who can put some weight on the boards you've just finished to make sure everything stays nice and tight. They suggest using a row of unopened product but then you gotta continually lift it and move it around which also slows you down. -Inspect each board when you take it out of the package, I know exactly where there are a few mistakes because I did not check and then afterwards I noticed an edge was coming up or while trying to hammer endlessly I realized it would not go because the tongue or groove was damaged. Also, be sure to mix up the boards from different boxes, always have 3 boxes open and juggle taking from the boxes so some boxes are fresh. This helps you avoid repetitive patterns next to each other which is especially important with this floor to avoid it looking fake. -Measure measure measure. I'm not great with doing calculations and measurements in my head so I used painter's tape to make the boards. You have to reverse the measurements which is hard to explain but think of it this way, when you make a cut at the end of a row, 1 side needs to have a tongue/groove to fit into the last board in that row, and the other side needs to be straight to go against the wall. It takes a bit of juggling in your head at times but that is the biggest hangup. -Another huge measuring thing is if you can get a good mockup of your floorplan and measure everything out even just somewhat it will save you from ending up with pieces that are too small to use. I did not do this and have a few funky pieces at the ends. I can cover them with molding but I still know they're there. I do have some minor concerns about the long-term reliability of this product. For example, some boards were already damaged when they came out. They were in boxes wrapped in film and packed on a pallet, so they couldn't have had too much damage done to them. Additionally, one drop of a screw driver took a gouge out of the finish. This doesn't bode well for any heavy traffic area like a kitchen. I'm glad this is just my bedroom. We'll see how it lasts! For right now I love the product and the look, and since I ordered some extra Home Depot was great about taking back the unused unopened boxes and giving me that hot refund. Couldn't be happier!

    LOVE it!
I have had every type of flooring from cheap laminate to real wood and everything in between. Outlast is the best! We have had it for three years. People think it is real when they come over. It doesn’t show dirt much because it isn’t shiny and has character. It will swell ONLY if you damage it somehow and then get that wet. I broke a large glass bowl and got a tiny gouge that eventually got wet. I am now shopping for another color for our new house.

This product is relatively easy to install the preparation of the surface is key. The product can withstand hard knocks and is easy to remove liquid spills. I am still searching for a practical way to clean the surface and create a shiny appearance. It is also necessary to put an underlayment to hold area rugs on place.

Excellent flooring. A little harder to install due to 2 edges locking in instead of one like regular laminate, but that prevents any seams from popping extremely well. Installed normal in front room and then backwards into my kitchen to avoid a room transition. Looks amazing!

        2 year review
I have had this flooring in my house for over 2 years now. I must admit it is AMAZING! I installed myself as a novice with very few problems. I have 3 dogs who run, walk and play on it daily and you cannot find a single scratch mark. spills or dog accidents are a simple cleanup and muddy paw prints are no longer a hassle... I only wish I would have installed it sooner. this is a must buy for pet owners who want a durable, high end wood flooring.

I bought a pallet of the Antique Cherry. Truck delivery was slow but driver was very helpful and pulled the pallet right up to my porch. They do not do inside delivery so prepare for a long workout. As others has stated, its a bit trickier to install. They fit together really tightly (I guess that is why its water resistant) so you have to do a little more work. What worked best for me was to assemble the whole row at a slight angle. Then work down the row twice, gently tapping each board in the center. When all boards are tight. start gently pressing them flat. You make a tapping block from a scrap piece that mates so you never tap directly on the board. After a few rows I got the hang of it. The appearance is quite good and dramatic. Minor gripe is, these boards have actual ridges so it may be a bit of a dust trap and harder to clean/Vacuum. I used Pergo Gold underlayment which I love for ease of use and vapor barrier. Overall very satisfied.

Absolutely amazing! A complete transition for a 1/3 of our home and it just looks fantastic. Very happy with the entire process from measuring, delivery and installation. Only recommendation I would make is to remove the existing and install under the existing wall instead adding the 1/4 round. In any case the floor is beautiful!! I have a before and some after pics.

I ordered an installed these floors in my house just over a month ago. Just to give you a frame of reference, I am a young lady with minimal home construction under my belt. However, with the help of a friend who has laid floors before (this was his 4th time) we were able to easily install them in less than 40 hours total. Which considering I put them in my foyer, master, living room, dining room, breakfast nook, and hallway leading back to my two guest rooms, I think went quicker than expected. I will say, my friend mentioned that where most floors truly "Click into place", these took a little more love. They had to be tapped into place. I didn't mind, considering that tells me this is a really tight fit. With them being "waterproof", the tightness seemed appropriate! I really wish words could describe how much I love these floors! I love the texture, the color, the thickness. These floors are truly amazing for the price! I will say that they are darker than i would consider "auburn", however I order just one box to see them in person and in the house to make a decision and it was a great investment. I would recommend these floors to ANYONE!

I would never recommend this flooring to know body. Its real cheap and the corners chip easy. While installing this floor my girlfriend drop her iPad on the flooring and it was like a 4 feet drop. The iPad has a cover around it to protected it. The cover is not a hard plastic more softer then hard. It made a chip in the flooring the size of a dime. This floor is suppose to be XP extra hard surface (NOT), the flooring scratches easy, and the underlayment that they put on this flooring is so cheap that breaks off. Underlayment is not suppose to breakoff like a potato chip. Maybe the beveled edge flooring they have mite be better. But these edges are straight cut so it chips real easily. I have installed other types of flooring and this is the worst especially for the price.

Absolutely love it! Looks very high end and is durable. It's been in our master bath for a year and we are extremely pleased. If we had known about this before we put real maple in our first floor, we would have used this! It's just beautiful.

Just completed 168 sq ft room. No problems doing the install. Looks wonderful. Suggestions - Get the tapping block and pull bar, you will need it to get the joints tight. Spend the $100 and buy a brad nailer (I used the Ryobi from HD) it will save you hours and give a better finish when you install the baseboard/quarter round. I also splurged and bought a guillotine cutter, it allowed me to make cuts in the room without all of the dust and having to get up and down dozens of times to go outside to the saw. Fair warning if you do cut the product with a saw, you will generate a ton of very fine wood dust. Do this outside and wear and face mask!!!

Best Laminate Flooring Available In The Market
I literally researched every major maker of laminate, vinyl, and hardwood flooring. Went to at least 5 different flooring suppliers and this is by far the best looking product for the money. I was also hesitant because I had heard so many negative things about water and laminate flooring, but this stuff is incredibly durable and I have had zero problems!

There IS a trick to installing Outlast - it took me about 2 boxes to figure it out. We took our work apart and started over at that point. I was going CRAZY with getting the planks to stay locked together. I would get the first row together, then when I added the second row, adding a new plank would pull previously installed ones apart. The gaps were everywhere! I realized that my baseboards were raised up from the floor just about 9mm (just a little less than the thickness of the planks) - probably to allow the installation of flooring under it when the house was built (but the original owner put down peel and stick vinyl, then carpeted over that later). The upshot was that the spacers that held the flooring away from the wall were not well supported, and when I tapped (or really pounded) the planks with the tapping block, the planks which were supposed to be rigid and provide support to the subsequent rows, were actually moving and causing the gaping. So, we pulled the first row away from the wall and put some 2x4's along the wall to act as a rigid backstop. The second row then went on much easier. We would slide the short edges together, then rotate the plank down so the long edges are close together. Then, standing on the previous row to give additional weight on the previous row, I would use the tapping block to tap the long edges together, starting at the short end that I just joined, and moving down the length of the plank. Putting a full box on the first few rows also helped keep things rigid and in place. I found that it helped to lift up the long edge at the opposite end slightly as I hit the tapping block to allow the tongue to slide in property. You can tell that the edges are clicked together and locked when the new plank suddenly rotates downwards. If the new plank is tilted up, it isn't locked! When the new plank is in correctly installed, the groove edges at the original short end will be totally flush and there will be no gap between the planks. After about 4 rows, we removed the 2x4s, replaced the plastic spacers, and slid the flooring back in place (the plastic moisture barrier made that easy). We really love the look and feel of this flooring. Durability and scratch resistance will be something we will learn more about as time goes on, but experimenting with samples seems like it is pretty scratch resistant.

I just had 550 squ feet installed in my great room and hallways, and it totally transformed the space! Really beautiful. Installed easily. I love the texture. You certainly would not walk in and think oh that's laminate. Very rich and authentic looking. I'll be doing my master bedroom next! It cleans up easily. We had some rain during installation so my dog ran around with wet paws etc. and it is easy to quickly clean up. My 10 month old zooming puppy has given it the scratch test with her running around :) Looks perfect! I'm very pleased with the Outlast! The first person who saw my new floor is going to order some for her house. Highly recommend
