Decided to refinish the hardwoods in my bedroom before repainting they walls (600 sq ft, roughly). Loads of damage from the last decades and not proper care with prior owners. All walk-behind sanders were rented out at all stores near me so I took a chance and went for this one based off sale price and an even split of reviews pos/neg. This little thing has power! The dust bag sucks but I connected my shop vac to the back and that helped tremendously. It’s time consuming given the machine for use in a decent sized room, but it did the job well. I went with 36>60>80 grit sequence and it was perfect. Bought a 5-pack of each grit paper and used 3 of the 36 & 60, 2 of the 80 (mainly cause of my pickiness but 1 would’ve been enough). Photos are the before and afters - you can see the damage I was working with; so bad! I purchased this house knowing it was a fixer upper and my room had the floors of the house with the damage. Overall I would recommend this for smaller rooms and projects if you don’t mind the workout - it served its purpose really greatly much to my surprise. I’m happy with my purchase and now have added a new Ryobi tool to my growing collection. \m/

I wanted a belt sander that didn't cost an arm and leg. pretty much was going to recycle after the job. that said within the first 5 hours I ran over the cord and sucked it into the machine. not really the housing is to high in the rear and the cord on the back side is positioned so it is to easy to catch. I 'm pretty skilled with tools and I did this same thing 3 times even watching for it. last time let the smoke out. So I retired the machine after about 10 hours. I found a less expensive solution else where.

needed a sander that wasn't too much and wouldn't get out of control on a first time user and this one does the job, the sanding belt that comes with it didn't last too long but it got me thru the basics on learning how to use it and that was enough....it would have been nice for ryobi to have a basic " BELT SANDING FOR DUMMIES" guide book but there's really only 3 things to deal with ( the Dust Bag , the Belt release switch , and the belt adjuster ) used this to sand down my deck for re-staining and it did the job perfectly

I’ve had this for 2 months and used on only two projects (table tops). As others have stated it pulls the sand paper and causes it to rub tearing up the paper. The back wheel on mine has also melted! Seems to be some sort of cheap rubber. Now the sand paper won’t rotate. Obviously I’m out of the return window so it looks like this will make its way to the trash can and I will not purchase another Ryobi tool again!
Great power for the price, works well and changing belts are quick and easy.

This little booger knocks out some serious sanding! Like all belt sanders you have to constantly fiddle with the adjustment so the sandpaper doesn't "walk" off the belt and of course the bag needs emptying constantly but that's just part of the joy of sanding. One thing you have to be especially careful of (not sure why it's so with this particular sander) is backing the sander over its own cord! Yeah, I know you're probably thinking only an idiot would do that and you're absolutely right but when it happens to you don't say you weren't warned! Luckily this powerful little guy is only about $50 to replace and HD always has a pile of them in stock. HIGHLY recommended!

I bought the belt sander to sand the deck to remove the old stain that the power washer didn't knock off. Used it for a few hours and using a medium grit sandpaper worked nicely
