About the 3rd time I used the trigger lock feature on this Ryobi belt sander, it stopped working. I returned it. The saw shocked me several times through the trigger, I believe because static electricity is built-up from all the friction. The trigger lock seems to be electronic, and it may be that the static fried some circuitry. I replaced the sander with a Metabo from another vendor. Its trigger lock is much easier to engage than the Ryobi, and the sander didn't shock me.

Jerky, shaves too much at times

Just bought this sander 2 hours ago, opened the box and the tool was dirty and used!

Great performance for our first use.

So far, so good. Just got it, used it on one task. EZ swapping of Sandpaper scrolls.

I purchased the RYOBI Belt Sander about a year ago, mainly for DIY projects around my home. Unfortunately, my experience with this tool has been far from satisfactory. Despite minimal use, the sander stopped working completely. This was quite disappointing, especially considering its limited usage. Based on this experience, I would advise against purchasing RYOBI tools, as their reliability seems questionable.

I have little experience with belt sanders. But for the price it's good. I'm only using for small home projects so I can't speak on durability or quality. But it works good for me. Hard to find belts for this though, and the belt that comes with is very aggressive, feels like 40 grit. Should include 2 or 3 belts of various grit levels.

Bought it as it was cheap, and around 4 stars reviews. Here are my observations: 1. Yes, the belt slides off track, but that only happens when you are sanding with the front roller, and not the entire surface. If you apply pressure evenly belt stays and repositions back. 2. Unit is loud, after 10 min of work it is getting pronounced even with ear buds. 3. Dust bag is absolutely useless, everything is outside. Even if it functioned properly, it is so tiny, it would probably require to empty it out every 15 minutes. 4. Unit is powerful enough, with the 35 grit belt I didn't have a feeling it lacks power.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought to get into the corners and edges of the floor we were refinishing. Handy little tool that worked much better than the Milwaukee palm sander we got. It doesn’t need much pressure (and can leave grooves if you’re not careful), but the belt has a tendency to slide a bit. It had a small knob on the side to adjust but that can be a bit of a pain to handle when you’re sanding. Happy with the purchase and would buy again.

The button to keep the sander running was not sensitive enough to engage easily.

This sander may be acceptable for use on small projects. I did you need a sander for real work, I would not recommend this one at all. I had to return this sander during the first day of use. The drive wheel broke and the belt would not track straight anymore. I ended up buying the large Makita belt Sander, and I am very pleased with it.
