This stuff does not spread far, and you really need two coats! We are talking about needing 6 or more gallons for a tiny one car garage floor. This is an extremely expensive garage floor. The recommended applicator fails after about a gallon or so and leaves lines in the finished work. DON’T DO IT !

We understand your frustration. Please keep in mind that Rust-Oleum Decorative Concrete Coating is not recommended for use in garages because it will not be able to hold up to vehicle traffic. For the best coverage, make sure to apply the product using the unique applicator designed for use with this product.

I say I would recommend this product but with great hesitation. I first used this on a screened in area at my front door in Florida. The product went on beautifully and I loved the look. At first I found the foam roller that Rust-oleum provided, strange to work with but I got the hang of it. Fast forward. Today I painted my front porch In Pennsylvania, following all the same procedures as I did in Florida and as outlined in the coating directions. I used a brush to edge in places where the concrete porch met the brick wall and around the railing supports. Everything went fine. Then I poured some of the coating out of the can onto the porch (probably the equivalent of 2 cups and started to spread it with the specifically required roller, working about a 3' x 3' area. Immediately I felt this wasn't acting like it did in Florida--it wasn't "spreading", but more like splattering as I rolled. Then I noticed clumping, where it seemed that the liquidy component was separating from the sandy component. At this point clumps started dropping off the roller onto the concrete porch floor. Using the paint mixer stick, I scraped off sand clumps from the roller. In spite of this I continued to coat the flat top of my porch using the recommended roller. I probably should have stopped but then how was I going to rectify a half coated porch. As I came to the steps, I went back to using the brush, which seemed to work ok. It has now been about an hour since I finished the 1st coat. Looking at the porch, there are clearly clumps of sand rather than an evenly distributed surface of sandy coating. I'm hoping the people at Rust-oleum will read my review and offer some solution. I read a review on the same product, different color, where the reviewer had the same issue I have. I'm so frustrated I could cry. I just loved the way this turned out on my front entry in Florida, hence why I decided to use it on my front porch in Pennsylvania. Another reviewer mentioned that due to the texture of this coating, it was going to be hard to keep the surface clean. While I didn't feel that way with the coating in Florida, that is going to be an issue with the way it has performed here in Pennsylvania. I used a similar, competitor's product on my back porch about a week ago. I had no issue with that coating. That product called for using a specific kind of roller too but the one recommended had a slight nap to it, not like a smooth foam as Rust-oleum provided me in Florida. I chose to use it on my back porch because there were more color options than with the Rust-oleum coating, but decided to use the Rust-oleum on the front because the slate color worked fine there and I was so pleased with how well it had worked before. Rust-oleum, please help. What do you recommend now? Should I get concrete stain and stain over this? At nearly $50 a gallon, I certainly don't want to have to put multiple coats on my surface for this product to perform as it should, with 2 coats and even at that I am fearful of putting a 2nd coat on with the way it is currently performing.

Great product, but use patience. I resurfaced an entire patio utilizing ten gallons of the Rus-oleum coating. And worth every penny. Very consistent over all gallons in color and viscosity. The application I had was over a textured surface, a previously stamped concrete patio.

I am very happy with the results....I painted a long covered patio and after 2 coats i had to purchase 6 more gallons to finish for a total of 16 gallons. Used the roller designed for this type paint. It’s a different consistence but once you start you will begin to get the feel of rolling.

Something is amiss here, Mike! Prior to applying Rust-Oleum Decorative Concrete Coating, it is essential to etch bare concrete and thoroughly rinse the surface. The surface should also be cleaned with a suitable degreaser to ensure proper adhesion. Rustoleum

I looked for a long time for a product to use on my concrete house foundation. This Rust-Oleum's product sounded like what I wanted. Although their website says it's for all concrete surfaces, in a later phone call to them, they said it's not for vertical surfaces. Go figure. So far, it's fine. Ask me again in a year. But it really looks GREAT!

in the color, I was expecting a better mix of colors/small objects. It was more solid than anything else, the first one I got last year was better. I did have the store mix the paint, and i mixed it more when I got home. oh well.

Thank you for sharing your experience using our Rust-Oleum Slate Decorative Concrete Coating. Our Slate color should have a mix of white, blue, and black flecks in the gray coating. It sounds like the product was mixed thoroughly prior to application, so we are not certain why the color appeared more solid than in your past application. If you would like to call us at 888-683-5667 we will be happy to look into this further. Rustoleum

We used this product on our patio expansion which consisted of new brick pavers and older pavers. The biggest problem I had was finding the product. I had to drive all over South Florida to acquire the 20+ gallons I needed. We cleaned, primed and prepared the surface. I ended up pouring it into a five gallon bucket and mixing on my own, with a mortar mixer because we had so much raining waiting to apply it. Overall it looks real good, but there are some spots where the color is not an exact match. In fact, when we did the coping on our pool, the color ended up being dark grey and I had to apply another coat to get the color to match. I'd recommend this for small areas, but for an area the size of our patio, approx >1000 sq.ft I wouldn't recommend it.

We really appreciate your feedback regarding Rust-Oleum Decorative Concrete Coating. Keep in mind that paint tends to dry darker on the surface and the porosity of the surface you're applying it to can affect the color slightly. Rustoleum

        Bright Red Brick
The Red Brick Decorative Concrete Coating is a wonderful product to use when you want to make that old looking concrete look new again. The most important part of using the red brick decorative concrete coating is to make sure that your base is clean, dry, and the temperature is above 60 degrees. When applying the coating do not try to cover with one heavy coat, two lighter coats are better.

This product should be removed from production by Rustoleum! Even if you follow ALL of the instructions to the letter, the adhesion of the coating is a complete failure. If pulls right off the concrete with your fingers! Go on YouTube and type in Rustoleum Concrete Coating and watch two of the videos specifically showing why this is a horrible product!

Uh oh, something is amiss here! With proper surface prep and application, Rust-Oleum Decorative Concrete Coating lasts for years to come! When etching the surface, it is essential to rinse the surface at least 3 times after to ensure there is no etch residue on the surface. It is also important that the surface is good condition prior to application and that any unsound concrete is removed. Rustoleum

        Looks great by the pool
This came really quick and they sent the clean and etch along with the coating which was really great! I also used the recommended rollers that came as well. This went on really easy once you follow the instructions for the clean and etch. We applied this to brand new concrete after waiting the 30 days that was recommended on the cans. I really love the look of this color and will be getting more to finish off when we put in the rest of the concrete. The rollers worked really well with this and didn't seem to make it puddle up as I read other reviewers say. I had no issues with this, which it may depend on the type of finish of the concrete. I highly recommend getting this but would also recommend using the clean and etch first as it really helps with the coating. This dried a whole lot faster than I thought too. Great product!

        Looks good
First off, I don't recommend to order it online, but rather buy it in a store. The thin cardboard box was totally crushed when it arrived and so where the paint cans. The paint is a bit hard to work with as it is rather stiff and not as liquid as I hoped. Not sure if this has something to do with the damaged cans. They recommend to use the concrete cleaner and etcher first, which should help prevent peeling which other reviewers have complained about. As of right now it is painted and looks good, time will tell how it lasts.

        Perfect DIY Patio Improvement
While on vacation, my nephew a stone contractor offered to apply Rustoleums' Decorative Concrete coating. He said one of his clients had hired him to apply the product on a covered patio similar to mine. He had read mixed reviews on the product, but didn't understand how the product could perform in some instances and not in others, suggesting it likely was improper preparation. He wanted to apply the Decorative coating to my patio to get familiar with it before applying on a client's patio. So while dog sitting for me, he spent a couple evenings preparing and applying the coating to my patio. When I came home and saw the transformation of that old concrete patio, I almost could not believe my eyes. He said he power washed the concrete first, then scrubbed Rustoleum's degreaser with a shop broom and rinsed. Because of his schedule, he allowed the patio to sit for a couple of day completely drying. He then applied Rustoleum's etching product, let it dry and then applied a second time. He said he always double etches concrete to increase the "profile" making the concrete adhesion better. It doesn't hurt the concrete in any way but improves its ability to hold onto the coating. He thinks the failures he read about in negative reviews was likely the etching wasn't done or needed to be repeated if the concrete was smooth and relatively new. Because we've had high humidity since he applied the coating and now a weekend of rain, he suggested I hold off on moving my wrought iron furniture onto it to avoid any scraping. Time will tell, but at this point, my patio looks brand new. Overall, he said the product was easy to work with and near fool proof if the proper prep work is done. I'll update my review with pictures once the furniture is moved onto it.

        concrete coating
Having little experience with these types of products I was a bit intimidated at starting this project. The directions and descriptions were easy to follow and applying the product was easier than expected. The finish color was vibrant and really pops! I had tried another product and this one was easier to apply and the color was much more pleasing when finished than the other brand.

Looks great but needs a special roller to look right
Finally got a break from the rain and did the patio with the Rustoleum RED BRICK DECORATIVE CONCRETE COATING. I also used the recommended foam roller . Im very glad I got the roller and did the job as they recommended as the results really look great and we like it very much. (But still waiting on second coat to dry right now LOL) Coverage is good as described on the can. So far its done a good job of making the latex patched cracks invisible too which is a bonus but I did do a really good job at getting them smooth and even to begin with. It has a slight textured stone like finish which is also supposed to be non slip
