This product works flawlessly. I used it on top of an old shed, thin metal roof. Way better than conventional Metal roof coatings for a project a small.

I heard about Rust-Oleum primer paint many years ago. It is excellent for exterior ironworks because of it prevents rust. It has excellent adhesion to metal parts even it is slightly rusted. I used it to paint my iron railing in my backyard.

Get it mixed in the store, if possible. Very hard to stir manually and get it fully mixed due to oil base. My first application failed because not enough pigment was deposited by brush from top of can. Loaded pigment on the stir stick from the bottom of the can to load brush. Then worked fine.

That's not what we like to hear, Bruce! It shouldn't be difficult to mix the Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Rusty Metal Primer, but your feedback is valuable to us, and we'll make sure it's passed on appropriately. This is an oil-based paint and will be thicker than your standard water-based coating. In rare cases, the product can freeze, but once it's brought back up to room temp, should not be a problem mixing. Not to mention that we're now in warmer conditions. Best Primer and smooth
I used this for fresh steel. I used etching fluid to clean the metal and the primer bonded with the metal as if it was one and painting on it is smooth. I did an entire steel-made barn 30x60. I used on 2x4 steel tubing. The etching fluid save all the sanding the steel. Do not use acetone- does not work - it will peel.
