No instructions

Disappointed
This seems like the place to complain a bit. So, for some reason the center (thing that spins) keeps working loose. So not getting an even spread. For the money, should last much longer. Only used less than 12 times (with Scott’s fertilizer. ).

Flimsy product pieces!!
I have had my spreader for about 2 years now and it was doing good until a few days ago. I mainly use use to spread fertilizer or lime. While I was using, I noticed nothing was sinking down like it would normally do. I came to see the plastic agitator loosened from the connector, cause it not to be flushed to the fill tank. Once placed back on, I continued about another 20ft for it to completely fall apart from the gear box. I can't understand how this could happen with basic granules. I take care if my equipment after every use, so it's not like I was careless.

Stripes!
Dumps the supermajority of the media straight down and causes an awful striped yard. Garbage! Wasted $100 worth of fertilizer for an awful looking lawn. Returning today!

Check that the rotor, gearbox or agitator is not bent or damaged. When applying, if not walking fast enough the spreader will not fling the product properly and therefore will potentially hit the wheels. All of our broadcast spreaders under went a design change at the end of 2020 that changed rotor angle and changed the agitator back to a 2-wing agitator. These changes reduces the potential for the product to hit the wheels.

Not Worth the $---poor quality
Purchased last fall 2023 to spread fertilizer. This spring 2024 I noticed a grinding noise from rt wheel. Went to spread Grub-X this past week (June) and spreader worked intermittently. Heard grinding noise again. Also, Edge guard handle stopped working (Heard a snapping sound within the handle component), so I had to move the dial by hand. Removed the plastic orange hub cap to check the rt wheel and noticed black slivers of broken plastic. Evidently the gears are made of cheap plastic material and don't hold up. I would definitely not purchase again. Lesson learned--read reviews. I had always purchased Scott spreaders in the past, but I guess they no longer emphasize quality.

Does not dispense properly
Will not dispense step 2 properly. Quite disappointed in this spreader. It’s my second spreader in 30 years. This one is only 2-3 years old.

Terrible product. Don’t waste your money
Purchased this spreader 2 years ago. Spreader agitator broke on the third use.
Searching for a replacement without any luck. Would not recommend this product as it’s poorly made and will not last.

broke after just a few uses
Used this 3 times and it’s now broken. Do not buy this product it is not durable at all. The center piece that come through the bottom of the hopper snapped off. I tried to post a photo but the site did not let me.

Do not buy
This is the worst left my lawn with a lot of stripes. Does not put out a 5’ path in fact it does not put out 2’ on the right side. Only reason I bought was cause I was using Scott’s product.

Has worked well for me
I bought this spreader maybe 15 years ago at the Home Depot for $49.
I use it numerous times a year.
It’s always worked well for me and I’ve never had a problem with it. However, I do keep the dial set at 5.25 to apply the desired amount of granules

Short Cable Life Due To Cheap Design
Only a season and a half old and the Edgeguard control cable has already broken.
The design has several right angle bends in the central wire inside the lever housing to allow the wire to engage the actuating lever. No surprise that the wire broke at one of those sharp bends.
I could understand if the lever was being forced against a jam but that was not the case.

Flawed spreader
I purchased a Turf Builder Edgeguard DLX last summer. I used it. Several times with Turf Builder fertilizer and sensed it wasn’t spreading enough material on the lawn per instructions and settings on the spreader. This year I purchased the 4 step program and just applied #1. I had a 15k bag and a 12k lawn. I went over the entire lawn on the recommended 3 setting and had easily 1/2 of the bag left when I was done. Getting the right amount on my lawn is critical to get the results desired. What do you recommend?

Junk
Lasted about 18 months which is about 6 applications. Last summer the door and broadcaster (spinner) stuck frequently, resulting in fertilizer burn, this spring the shaft on the broadcaster broke. I bought this to replace the scotts mini spreader which lasted maybe 3 yrs. No more Scott's equipment for me.

Only good for seed
This should not be used for fertilizer, it creates fertilizer stripes in the yard. I have found this spreader helpful for seed, but all in all not a good buy and it’s worth the extra money to buy something that is higher quality.

Feeder system is horrendous.
I loaned my previous spreader to friends, an accident happened and they bought this piece of .... for me as a replacement. I have struggled with this thing for 2 years now. I have approximately a 10,000 sq. ft. yard. I just applied the Tri-Build fertilizer to my yard and the setting called for a 3.25, to which I set it to 4.5. I went over my yard, and there was enough in the spreader that I set it up to 8 and still went over my yard again to have extra, constantly stopping to mix the granules with a hand trowel. The feeder system on the spreader is absolutely horrible!!! Had I set it to the recommend 3.25, I'd have had to go over my yard 4-5 times to "spread" the fertilizer.

Awful product with NO SUPPORT from Scotts
I get this home & try to figure out what the spreader rate should be set to. I went to Scotts.com. I have attached a picture. It is a thumbnail of the chart that WILL NOT OPEN full screen. If you go to the product page:

Don't buy unless you are prepared modify
To make this thing last more than a season make the modifications described and shown in the pictures below:
1) add a second bolt to the handles to keep the handles from folding up if you have rough terrain
2) add spacers between the wheels and gearbox to keep the wheels from wearing and contacting the frame. One side is split vinyl tubing w/ duct tape
3) add an 8-32 x 1-1/2 cross bolt through the drive wheel and axle because the splines in the wheel will fail.
4) add 3/4" washer to retain wheel

Defective
Disappointing design. Have tried to walk faster, edge guard on and off etc. Leaves stripes in lawn due to wheel placement and design. Granules get bounced off wheels from height of drop mechanism and they also collect in wheel housing.

Used once - wheel broke - SO cheaply made!
Used once - the wheel broke. My lawn isn't even bumpy! It is SO cheaply made - the wheels may as well be made out of cardboard. They should not be asking more than $15 for this cheap product. I used it once last spring and then got to look at my motley mess of a lawn the rest of the year - dark green patches and dead patches where it barfed out too much fertilizer.

gearbox broke in first couple feet
Filled with 20lb bag of grass seed and immediately broke in first couple feet going over some tree roots. I was going at a walking pace and it jammed and the gearbox snapped. Very fragile part to be broken on normal usage.
