The most common reason a lawn does not respond to fertilizer is soil pH Soil pH must be between 5.5-7.5 for fertilizer to be absorbed by the grass. Grass will not respond during periods of dormancy. If the lawn isn't receiving at least 1 inch of water per week then the lawn will not green up as fast. A stressed lawn will not green up with the application of a fertilizer. A continued or general yellow look may indicate a lack of iron.

When mowing do not remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade at a time. A stressed lawn will not green up with the application of a fertilizer. A continued or general yellow look may indicate a lack of iron. We suggest trying an iron supplement or follow-up in 6 to 8 weeks with a fertilizer containing iron.
