Not so great after one season
AT FIRST, little spreader works great since it spins at regular pace and so it ensures an even spread. However, after one season the spinning piece gets stuck and won’t spin easily anymore. It works for about a minute then it starts choking and getting stuck. I’ve cleaned it, put fresh batteries, etc. Nothing works. If they re-designed that part so that it doesn’t get stuck or gunky then I’d consider buying and recommending the product. As of right now, it’s not worth it for one season use.

Used twice with good results. Now with fertilizer it spins, but nothing comes out. Loud clicking sound as though blades are hitting something. If there is a clog, I can't see it. The movable guard just flops around as though it has come adrift. Problem began after I changed batteries.

Check the position of the Edgeguard. It must be completely set to ON or OFF, if it is set in between, there will be some binding. Make sure the Edgeguard is not dislocated and can rotate freely. Check the Rotor Plate (green spinning thing that throws the product out to the front of the spreader) position. There should be a gap between the orange Edgeguard part that is directly under the hopper and the top of the cylinder portion of the green rotor plate. The bottom of the cylinder portion should be resting on the black washer like piece. If possible, use a screwdriver to push the rotor plate down and make sure the center cylinder portion of rotor plate is aligned with the bottom of the spreader. Just lay the screwdriver across the rotor plate and push down. Pull out any chunks of material with a damp paper towel or screwdriver (do not clean directly with water) from around the rotor plate and agitator, set the Edgeguard fully in the OFF position and try again. It is helpful to slightly tilt the spreader down to keep any product from clumping. If you are still having issues, please contact us for assistance.

One year old removed batteries for storing

Poor performance
Does not spread evenly and is messy. Plan to walk backwards when spreading. Instead of feeding near the ground the material ends up on your pants instead of just your shoes. Material does not always flow through the small hole above the spinning wheel. If you shake the feeder a big bunch of product falls out of the feeder disk area and plops onto your lawn. You end up spreading it out best you can. If you can afford and have a place for a proper drop spreader, do that instead of buying this item.

Complete junk
I have a small yard and with fresh batteries, only lasted about 5 minutes. Changed batteries twice didn't even get through a 1/2 a hopper. Don't waste your time or money on this thing. Hopefully I can return this thing. The side shield that is for doing around the edge of your yard fell out. Should of realized something was up when Home Depot didn't have any other hand spreaders on the shelves but had half a dozen of these (all with bird poop and dirt in them).

Use it for the first time this weekend and it was easy to use and did a great job evenly spreading out the fertilizer. But it runs on batteries and I am concerned of how it will hold up in the future after sitting for 6 months til it's next use.

Piece of junk
Had this product a year or so, only used a couple of times. Now will not work at all. Cleaned the contacts and changed the batteries, still nothing. A piece of junk.

The right tool for the job
Does exactly what I need and what it is designed for. Delivers a consistent pattern and doesn't get jammed up if the fertilizer has a clump in it. Only negative is the effort to find/compute drop rate of various products. Scotts should build a database for quick look up.

Reliable, consistent, and easy to use.
I’ve had this for about 4 years now, and it works like a champ. If it does clog, then a simple shake of the wrist works most of the time. If I was to make a suggestion, (and I’m going to), it would be to reevaluate the type of batteries used, a “C” cell at 1.5V versus “AA” at 1.2V would seem to make more sense from a clogging perspective.
I do have 1 question, the recommended setting for Bermuda grass seed is 5 for a WIRL, but doesn’t list a setting for the WIZZ. What is the equivalent setting.

Not for pros.
In a home setting where you use it once or twice it might work. In a professional or commercial setting I do not recommend. It’s in the garbage now after 2 months of use

I use for ice melt, make sure you have small pellet's because big stuff will jam it. And keep it clean..

Messy in use….. the concept is good, but when using the spreader for spreading calcium chloride to melt salt, a powdery residue is created by the spreader, which sticks to your clothes (pant legs)

Does not work with Scotts EZ Melt ice melter
Does not work with Scotts brand EZ melt. Use to last year but this year the EZ melt granules are larger and jam up and clog the spreader from working.
