Bought this to connect a generator to my breaker box. When I bought my home, it only had 60A service (which I upgraded to 200A). For emergencies, I figured 60A should be plenty. It has a very simple switch, that prevents the breakers, I have chosen to back-up by generator, from simultaneously being powered by the power company. Took a Star away, because the breakers are proprietary and seem rather expensive.

While the safety mechanism that prevents you from inadvertently using both power-feeds simultaneously is a bit hokky - IT WORKS! It means that my wife or daughter will not backfeed power to the grid accidently when I am not around to supervise. Peace-of-mind and safety. I installed it in a food-trailer build-out.

Circuit breaker for the utility side wouldn't stay on. Returned, tried to reorder. Couldn't because that was the last one. Disappointing.

Works for what I needed. The only thing I did not like is the main circuit guards. Really hard to see to insert the wires into the breakers. Otherwise good.

It was just as I expected. Worked for the garage.

Small and compact. Fits between the studs. Accommodates 8 circuits. The unit comes with four knockouts filled with the two power input circuit breakers and 4 unused knockouts. I first thought that would only accommodate 4 circuits. The nomenclature said it accommodates 8 circuits. I had to do some research to find it uses "tandem breakers." Each of the four "tandems" accommodates two circuits. I called Schneider Electric (Square D manufacturer) to verify the type of breaker. Their nomenclature begins with QOT followed by the amperage of the breakers in that unit. e.g. 2020, 1515, 1520. I suggest the posting emphasize the need for the specific breakers for that box.

The toggle does prevent turning on both sources at the same time, however, it is not strong enough to move both breakers with one motion. I think it could have been done better. I would have preferred a Homeline version instead so I wouldn’t have two kinds of breakers.

I purchased one of these 11 years ago and it has worked flawlessly. My neighbor was after the same thing, and it took some finding. All the panels you find if searching for a manual transfer switch are $400+. This is simple, safe and straightforward.

Being an electrician for more then 30 yrs this product was what I wanted. Went without pwr last year and I said no more. Item was a good value for a home generator.

For a manual style transfer from, normal power to generator power this panel is perfect. It protects home owner form energizing two sources at once, and protects linemen from having a generator load back feed high voltage line on them. It is a win win proposition for both parties. I have installed several and they work great and are reasonably priced compared to automatic transfer switches.
