Glad you liked it, HomeDepotCustomer. To be clear, the tread is not a veneer that you would find in manufactured furniture. The top and bottom layers are a re-sawn, color-matched, solid oak hardwood layer that is 1/8" thick. These layers are applied to the top and bottom of an oak hardwood core. The layers are solid oak, so they will sand and stain just like other red oak material, because they are solid red oak. If they are scratched or marred, they can be sanded, repaired, and stained, just like solid hardwood flooring. Traditional veneers on furniture are almost paper-thin, and cannot be repaired easily. These treads are built to last, and can be sanded and refinished if necessary.
