The Stiebel Eltron Tempra 29 looks like a well built product that is small and compact and is able to do the job of heating water for an entire home. Some things to consider if looking to go all electric: Is the up front cost worth it for the long run? My answer is maybe... I have solar panels and the extra electric cost are offset by them. I had to upgrade my main electrical panel to a 200 amp and run electric wires to the water heater location costing $2000.00. The plumber added $800.00. The unit cost plus a calcium filter and valves add up to around $1000.00. You see it adds up quick. The one issue I still have is that my sinks that are 'low flow' per California mandate don't seem to have enough flow to trigger the water heater's sensors. No problems with the showers or the kitchen sink just the two sinks in the bathrooms... I will follow up on this post to let you know how this problem was resolved

  • Verified Purchase & Recommended Product

The Tempra 24 Plus has exceeded expectations. It does require 2 separate 6/2, 240v circuits with a 50 Amp breaker per circuit. If you're replacing a hot water tank, the existing 10/2 wiring is not adequate. If you do not have the proper knowledge to safely install the needed circuits, the cost of installation will need to be added into the final cost. I found that the default temperature of 115°F was a little cool for everyone's liking, but 120°F made everyone happy. We can all take showers one after another, do dishes, run a bath if wanted, and we've actually done all 3 at the same time without issues. I expect long term reliability to be excellent, as Stiebel Eltron is the original developer of tankless whole home hot water systems.

Our traditional tank water heater failed leaking water all through the garage. We choose the Tempra 24 Plus to replace our 40 gal traditional water heater. This unit saves space and only uses electricity for heating the hot water we actually use. We have 3 full baths and it works great.

If you buy a tank-less water heater, you will have trouble finding qualified contractors to install it. I've had mine more than a month and it's still not in. The plumber could only run the plumbing to the unit. The electrician did not have the experience and did not run the right wiring. Good luck

We just installed the Stiebel Eltron and it is working so well it feels like voodoo magic. We have a getaway home that only has electricity so gas water heaters aren’t an option. We stand to save $$ on this on-demand hot water system over the tank model that was heating gallons of unused water. We are ecstatic.
