To install this cover, I built a simple wood curb projecting upward from the stairway frame about eight inches into the attic opening. This curb was sized to provide the necessary clearance above the folded stairway mechanism and something tangible to support the cover and attach it to. It was attached to the stairway frame with mending plates and screws. The installation was easy to work out and the thermal effectiveness of the cover is very good. The temperature differential between the attic space and space inside the closed cover runs around twenty to twenty five degrees.

Good product, but have to build a frame around it as it does not hold itself up. Recommended using staples to attach it to the frame. If you use screws, put them through the area the zipper is sewn to.

I love this product. One thing they don't tell you is that you gonna need double sided tape or upholstery nails to attach the "tent". Other than that I think this product is going to save me some money on electic bill.

After reading all of the reviews, this was an 'easy' choice to make. I could tell how well this was working as it was being installed, I could feel my own body heat reflected back of the inside as I was supporting the attic cover whilst it was being stapled down to the attic ladder framework. i thought it might need some additional sealing at the corners but absolutely not needed, it is Winter here now and I cannot detect any drafts or 'cold spots' when I checked in sub-zero temps. - I am VERY glad I made this purchase before I had the attic ladder installed, and it looks like it will last a lifetime!

Quick solution to drafty attic stairs
After dealing with ice dams last winter, I figured out that the attic stairs were a big source of heat loss into the attic. This insulating kit looks to fix that. It installed easily in 30 minutes.

Fit perfectly, installed with staples and sealed with tape. You can feel the heat trapped when you are standing at the top of the ladder and close it off. The temperature rises noticeably as the zipper is closed.

I like that it stays up out of way of ladder. Other products sagged and eventually ripped with use.

This product came without a frame, and without one it is a flop. I built a frame with PVC, which was an a additional cost. It is effective, but should come with a fame. I would not recommend this to someone who isn't a handyman and has a few necessary tools.

So far so good. This was recommended by our HVAC service contractor to have installed when we were having some additional intake duct vents installed for our new high efficiency furnace. Our attic steps were not insulated and it has stopped any down drafts around the edges. Look forward to seeing the difference during peak Summer heat.

I think it's helpful to remember when installing this product that there may be gaps around the entry to the attic which could also be leaking cool air (where the building materials come together and join to the attic floor), and which may not be covered by this. I viewed this as an insulation project, not just something to throw in place that's going to do everything. Next, as the seam that 'attaches' to the inside of the attic entry is fabric, you have to consider how to affix that to the wooden frame of the entryway. I used staples - and a lot of them - and in addition went around that seam with a bead of caulk, because air will seep through even with a ton of staples in place. Finally, the corners can be tricky. My entry has metal braces in the corners. I can't put staples into metal, clearly, so it was necessary to fill the voids that formed between the fabric seams and the metal braces with caulk. Even without metal braces, I think it would be difficult to have a perfect fit. Having sealed the gaps between the wood joists, filled the corner gaps where the braces are, and run a bead of caulk where the fabric meets wood, I think I've done a good job sealing the attic and would recommend this product. By itself, for 100 bucks, I think it's pretty ok, but go the extra step of sealing everything tight.
