Great improvement!
My son lives at A townhouse and the skylights were old & leaking. I ordered two of these skylights and the flashing kit also. I had a man that does roofing work on the side install it The skylights were heavy because these were big ones 46 x 46, but three guys got Them up The ladder. I am so glad that I did it as a DIY and not have to go thru a roofing company and pay a ton. It looks great, 100% improvement. We had a recent rain and no leaks. Very happy!

      Velux will NOT honor warranty!
I had two of these installed by a Velux contractor. In year five--last year--one leaked above the LR. Velux sent out the same installer, who blamed the fire prinkler system---which is not even near the skylights, and was found in perfect condition by my insurance adjuster! Despite the ten-year warranty, and it being only year 5, Velux refuses to fix it! Lots of complaints on BBB re this. I guess they'll next blame aliens! I'll be suing them when the rain stops. Neither the technician nor the department head found any indication of defects with your skylights during their inspections. It’s my understanding that we are waiting for you to provide some information that was requested in order for your warranty claim to receive further consideration, so please refer back to the communications you received. Fantastic skylight
This skylight makes the room! It really does. Only complaint is the separate flashing kit that is needed to install and isn’t included. And it’s $115. Meaning this window costs $365 overall, not $250. So that part was disappointing - but in no way regretting the window - Fantastic light sourch and outlook.

          Great product
Installed my skylight 10 years ago and no need for maintenance. Till this day no leaks. Absolutely beautiful addition for my dining area. I definitely recommend it. The only thing I regret was not getting the ones with built in shades. But I added powered shades with remote control and solar panels for the batteries.

            20 yr old skylight
Velux say lifetime warranty. Not true. I have 5 20 yr old skylights velux. All but on started to leak. Pro installer, no issue with anything but the garbage skylights. I do not recommend velux. Stay away. Second set in my lifetime. Leaking again. 20 yr max.

VELUX deck and curb mounted skylights have a 10 year product warranty as well as a 10 year No Leak Warranty when installed properly with VELUX flashing. These skylights also have a 20 year hermetic seal warranty for the glass. I'm afraid that we have never offered a Lifetime warranty on any of our products.
              Check them first!
Of course I meant to check each skylight before installation, but it's easy to get behind when you're getting a new roof and managing an entire upstairs renovation. 3 of the skylights were perfect, but the fourth was the worst caulking job I've ever seen- black caulk smeared across the skylight. I have no idea how this got past quality control, so I'm left assuming that there is no quality control. I've cleaned it up as best I can but it still sucks.

Thank you very much for your feedback and the photos. I’m sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with one of the skylights you received, and for the inconvenience it caused. There are quality control checks that occur at multiple points during the manufacturing process, so I’m passing along this information to our Product Management team and they will look into it. It would be very helpful if you could please call the VELUX Customer Service phone number at 800-888-3589 to report the issue directly to us and provide your contact information. Thank you for choosing VELUX!

Love these two skylights! Vents the cooking moisture and heat out of the kitchen. Brings in fresh air without the bugs. I added diffuser and grid support made from fluorescent lighting plastic. Pure sunlight was too harsh.

The skylight fits like a glove on the flashing.
The skylight fits like a glove on the flashing. Well designed and engineered, NO hassle with alignment or fitting, not often you'll find that the flashing kits fits exact with the skylight. I bought the 22 1/2 x 34 1/2, my review doesn't seem to go under the size of window I bought, anyways, great buy. I'm not a contractor, just a handy DIY guy. Thanks.

Just tested the hook. When I started to turn it by the rod, then it broke into 3 pieces right away. The hook is made by plastic which can not bear the twisting. Now I need to climb a ladder and use my hand to twist the hook manually every time I want to open the sky window.

We had 2 cracked dome plastic skylights that were over 25 years old. Now buying the domed type costs more than the flat glass, so we ended up buying 4 to make them all match. These VELUX Fixed Curb-Mount Skylights fit perfectly over our existing curbs! Installation was super easy. The flat profile looks so much better from the outside. And the clear glass really brightens the room!

We installed a pair of 22.5" x 22.5" solar-powered, fresh-air venting skylights to replace a much older fixed skylight in a vaulted ceiling. UPS delivered both units in perfect condition, arriving here in Hawaii within a few days of it being shipped. The only qualm was finding quite a bit of plastic shavings trapped between the screen and the glass of the skylight, as though it was never cleaned out before testing and packaging the units. Those were easily swept out before the final installation. The installation was easy enough. The most difficult part was finding the "on" switch. There's an opening along the bottom, inside edge of the skylight, and the small red sliding switch was recessed well within that opening. I had to use the blunt end of a barbecue stick to move the switch to the "on" position. After that, programming the remote to operate this solar-powered skylight was simple. The existing curbs for the original skylights were actually slightly undersized which meant additional framing had to be added to the outer perimeter of the original curbs. While this meant the skylights were a perfect fit, it also meant that the screens can't be removed -- because the original light shaft is smaller than it should be for this skylight. We didn't want to cut into the roof and build a whole new curb since the existing one was working fine and wasn't leaking at all. And it's not a big deal that the screens can't be removed. It can still be cleaned when necessary. What caught our attention, when we were looking for a skylight that could be opened, was that these automatically close when it starts raining. We were concerned that one day the skylights would be accidentally left open during a typical unexpected Hawaiian rain shower. Testing it with an artificial rain shower from a garden hose proved that it works as advertised. The skylights open and close slowly, taking around 70 seconds to fully open or close. The best part is that these venting skylights keep hot air from building up due to the vaulted ceiling, and allow the fresh tradewinds to circulate through the room. Time will tell as to how well they hold up. But they worked perfectly the moment they were in place.

Well made, easy to install. Recommend curb mounted application when installing into existing rafters that might not be spaced per required rough opening. Window crank and function could be improved, ie eight repetitions opens the window an inch (something like that but don't quote me) and the crank is a loop, like the end of an eye hook.

The product is exquisitely crafted.Special are perfect for transforming the old skylight.Easy to install. In particular, this model comes with a solar battery, omitting the wiring installation requirements and saving a lot of wiring time.Running quietly, almost no sound is heard. It will automatically turnoff when it rains, especially when it is sporadic and light rain, and the sensitivity is high. The only worry is how long does the electrical part work properly? If need to replace the old sunroof to improve the air circulation in the house, this product is recommended!

We were looking for three skylights windows for a project where we will show to our potential customers how we can bring the light into a dark room with skylight windows. We were choosing between Velux and Fakro. Both brands are famous in the US and have a good reputation. We ended up going with Velux due to the availability of a few discounts: 1) Velux was offering 40% Professional Discount (but ordering through them you have to pay 10% of order amount as shipping); 2) Home Depot was offering a deal of 15% off of Velux windows with free shipping. There were no deals for Fakro at the time. We bought three sets of Solar Powered Venting Curb-Mount Skylight with Laminated Low-E3 Glass Beige Room Darkening Blind (VCS 3046 2004CS01) and High-Profile Tile Roof Flashing with Adhesive Underlayment for Curb Mount Skylight (ECW 3046 0000C). Here are our Pros and Cons: Pros: 1. All items were well packaged in boxes. 2. They all arrived on time. 3. The skylights and flashings look solid. Cons: 1. The skylights come with two remotes KLI 110, one for the skylights and one for the blinds. Since we bought three windows, we ended up with SIX! (6) remotes. There was no way to order this size of skylights with universal remote KLR 200, which can operate all of these functions plus many additional functions not directly related to the skylights (eg., regular lights, etc.)… At the same time Velux skylights in other sizes (even without blinds) are available with universal remote. 2. The area all around PVC frame of skylights and the insect screens are full of scratches and dirty spots from hands. 3. The space between PVC frame and the insulated glass is full of plastic and metal shavings. There was even a screw left in-between there! As a result, plastic chips keep falling on the plastic teeth of the rails where plastic gear move the blinds up and down. As they keep getting caught there, this may result in the damage to the whole mechanism. Having these shavings also means that every time we open/close skylights more plastic pieces drop on the insect screens (and definitely on plastic rails, too). 4. We have also found some big metal shavings between the insulated glass and the rubber gasket – this means the insulation in those spots is compromised. 5. In one of the corners, the PVC frame parts are connected with 3 mm in difference in horizontal level between them. 6. In one of the skylights, the shelf for the insect screen is longer than it should be and was installed without any extra space; as a result it is arched instead of being in line. 7. Similar problem exists with the gear cover: the cover and the frame are not in level in the middle; the cover arches and creates a space in the middle. 8. Each corner of the PVC frame has an overlap (inside and out) as a result of soldering two pieces of the frame – these overlaps were not cut off. These plastic “leftovers” looks very unprofessional and ugly (unless you are planning to completely cover the frame from the inside). 9. There are also a few spots where formed aluminum sash connects with the insulation glass – in those spots the silicone sort of “leaked” outside. As result, I am more satisfied with the discount than the quality of the product. Next time, will try Fakro, when discount is available. IMHO… Fakro has two things which Velux does not have: 1. Fakro has the external blinds for the skylights, which Velux does not offer in the US anymore. There are very useful in hot states like Arizona. 2. In case the solar panel battery needs to be replaced, Fakro offers to exchange just the battery, whereas with Velux you would have to change the entire panel, which is obviously not cheap.

                      Response from VELUXCustomerServiceTeamDec 12, 2018
Thank you very much for providing your feedback! I have passed this along to our Quality Assurance team and they have already reviewed the information and are working with our Production team to address any issues that can be addressed. (For example, they confirmed shavings are vacuumed when assembling the skylights, but said certain skylight models have a stronger electrostatic force which prevents some shavings from being vacuumed, so they will look for a better solution.) I see that our Customer Service team is already working with you on arranging a service call, so that’s good.

Regarding the many remotes that were included, the funny thing is your order was submitted during a transition period during which we began moving away from including one type of remote with this skylight model and launching a new accessory that can control the skylight. In fact, it was only 9 days after your order was placed that our new VELUX ACTIVE kit (KIX 300) became available on homedepot.com. One of the many features of the ACTIVE system is it allows you to connect to and open & close your skylights and blinds through a free VELUX app on your smartphone.

If you are ever unable to find exactly what you are looking for on Home Depot’s website, please keep in mind that you can go to your local Home Depot store and ask a Millwork associate to special order an item for you. We have a very large assortment of products and cannot put all of them online, but our entire catalog is available through special order! Thank you again.

We were getting our roof done and decided to splurge a little on a couple of skylights in an area that has no windows. The roofers installed the skylights and I LOVE all the light they let into this area and down the stairway. It's an enclosed stairway and can get fairly dark so we leave the light on all the time. During the day we no longer need to do this! I love that they open so we can vent the upstairs and I love that they are not too much. I love the size of them. We've only had them installed for a few weeks and we've had some pretty substantial rain in that time without any leaks or condensation. So far so good.

This skylight perfectly retrofit my old 1980's Sun-Tek bubble skylight manufactured by Sun-Tek in Orlando FL during the 1980's. My old bubble light was cracking from age. Upon removal of the 30 year old bubble light my Sun-Tek curb flashing was aluminum framing measuring OD 26-1/4" top to bottom and side to side square. This skylight snugly slid onto my old existing aluminum flashing and with careful measuring, the self drilling screws securely fastened to the 1/2" aluminum vertical flashing frame face. This saved me a bunch of $$$ not having to replace the existing curb flashing. Look at the CAD PDF technical drawings on Velux website for precise measurements of the skylight so you can feel warm and fuzzy before ordering. IF you have the old bubble lights it will scare you when you see just how cheap and flimsy they were made leaving your house interior vulnerable to hurricane/rain damage. Spend the money to replace them with Velux skylights either normal tempered glass or this impact glass product.
