great fridge/freezer combo when traveling!
This unit was purchased to replace a RV refrigerator. The provided 110V plug in and 12V cigarette plug in provide all the power you need. It has separate controls for fridge and for freezer. After initial installation the unit was at the set temperature within one hour. So far it's holding up to demand. I like the eco mode for overnight use. The compartment sizes are plenty for a one person household for 2 weeks, with room to spare. It keeps icecream frozen solid and produce and meats adequately refrigerated. The temperature display is accurate within 2 degrees Fahrenheit. While the compressor is running it uses about 1 Ah. Overnight battery drops from about 13V to about 12.4V on a 180Ah available system with other electronics (phones, tablets, hotspots) charging as well. Over all the unit is better than a RV refrigerator since the cooling system will also perform on a 30 degree tilt. Unlike the RV fridges, which require almost true leveling. Nothing can fall out of the doors since they are top loading.I wired the unit directly into my electrical system (watch your polarity!) without going through a cigarette plug and protected it with a 10A blade fuse (originally protected by 10A glass fuse in the cigarette plug).

Perfect portable fridge appliance for solar application.. the compressor takes little elec. to start and 55 watts when running ...keeps perfect temps with digital display... that milk was nice and cold same with the beer.. plenty of room too. The doors being on the top keeps the heavy cold air in with out escaping so design is more efficient. You'll love the LED lights inside so no need for the flash light to see what ur grabbing. I love it! Works as expected

April 22, 2017: I just returned from a week long trip to Death Valley with the Whynter FM-62DZ. I am very pleased with this Refrigerator/Freezer overall. I slept in our VW Vanagon, with the unit at my feet; it was quiet when running and never disturbed my sleep. I had the larger compartment set to 42 degrees for fruit, vegetables, and cold-cuts of meat; all remained cold and fresh. The smaller compartment kept ice cream frozen, set to 15 degrees. The interior lights in the unit are great! The FM-62DZ was subjected to some mild off-roading conditions, and didn't have any problems with the bouncing and vibration. I had a combination of solar panels and auxiliary battery so I was not running it of of the van's starter battery. My primary dislike for the unit was lack of any provision to anchor it to the floor, other than the carrying handles. Other brands of portable refrigerators (such as the much more expensive ARB or Engel) have specifically designed threaded holes in the base for mounting. I removed the feet of the FM-62DZ, and fabricated mounting brackets for it to mount to a plywood plate anchored to the van's floor. Also, I fabricated an insulated pad for the top of the unit, to keep more of the cold in, and to male the top more comfortable for sitting. My rating would of been 5 stars, if better mounting options were provided; I'm going to say 4.5 stars!

After 1 week of use I'm very satisfied with this fridge/freezer. I have it running on 110 right now but plan to install it on a mobile 12v solar system. It takes some getting used to because of the tall compartments, but repackaging food in bags helps on space. It's very easy to change the temperatures of the compartments. It's pretty quiet. The beep when a lid is open too long is a nice reminder that helps conserve energy. It feels very sturdy although i have a feeling the metal exterior would dent easily, so i plan to keep it stored in a compartment (with adequate air flow). Unrelated to the product itself, i initially order this unit to be delivered to my house but FedEx REALLY dropped the ball on that. I spent a few hours with FedEx's very unhelpful customer support only to end up needing to drive 45 min to pick it up, and one full week after theye were supposed to deliver it. And when i opened it, the fridge was badly dented on one corner, due to FedEx mishandling. Home Depot was fantastic and easy to deal with in the return process. So i returned the damaged unit to a store and ordered another one to deliver to the nearest Home Depot. That order went very smoothly, arrived on time and undamaged. FedEx needs to go out of business - Home Depot, please stop using FedEx as a mail carrier.

      So Glad We Have This!
I completed an RV DIY buildout of a 2007 Sprinter. We have used this Whynter Dual Zone unit for three years, running continuously, both daily AC and DC power with absolutely zero issues with it's ability to cool/freeze food. My only issue is the light in the larger compartment has come loose, and when the lid is open for a bit the beeping alarm comes on. I have found I have to wipe the edge of the opening and the top to clear away any potential moisture before shutting the lid.

Blew away expectations! Excellent fridge and freezer. Used in Yukon XL with dual battery set up but it never ran the main batter under 10v running overnight and half of next day before checking. And that wasn’t in Eco mode. Cools and freezes unbelievable fast; literally like a residential unit (faster). Don’t confuse this with the cheap thermoelectric coolers, which I also own and will never use again. Looking forward to taking ice cream treats to the kids summer events this season!

I realize a compressor will make noise. Im not sure if there is another out there that is quieter- would like it quieter. Also cant be enclosed, was under the impression i could store it in the counter- slide in and out. The temperature doesnt work- its actually higher inside than the digital readout. The exterior is quite cold, so having the insulated cover is probably a great idea. Too bad you have to buy it seperate

Almost six years old and flawless performance.
Back in early 2015 I installed this unit in a cruising boat. It's built into some cabinetry which Whynter doesn't recommend. I made allowances for ventilation around the back of the unit (where the compressor lives). My boat is also air conditioned and doesn't get hotter than 70 degrees on the hottest summer days. I believe this has helped the unit as it runs less than it might with hotter ambient air temperatures. Mounted on heavy duty stainless steel locking slides the unit is out of the way when stored and slides out into a center aisle when needed. The power consumption is quite low and this unit can operate for a couple of days easily on a 200 Ah deep cycle battery bank. Leaving it on overnight in a car should not be an issue. The dual voltage allows you the flexibility of running the unit off of an inverter or line current during the day. If you shut down your inverter at night the unit will automatically switch over to your DC source. A Honda EU1000i inverter generator, a 40 amp three stage battery charger and a couple of 105 Amp hour deep cycle batteries is a great set up for this unit. Add a small inverter and you'll be able to run other AC only loads but the Whynter will run either way. It's quiet. I can hear a little compressor noise while in my berth but it's not objectionable. IMO this unit is superior to some very expensive "marine" refrigerator/freezers installed as original equipment in a lot of boats. I'm not a high speed boat do this unit doesn't get jarred around a lot. It has been out in some fairly big seas however and never had a problem as we rolled around 30 degrees or so from vertical. Overall I'd recommend this unit. It's done it's job, been reliable and trouble free.

FIve years on and it just keeps going.....
I purchased the FM-62DZ in late 2014 and installed it in a cruising boat in the spring of 2015. It's built into a cabinet and is accessed via heavy duty stainless steel slides. The unit can run on AC while I'm docked and DC while underway or at anchor. It has performed flawlessly and I would highly recommend it. It's reasonably energy efficient, quiet and simple to maintain.

            Great freezer
We bought this freezer for traveling to/from Indiana and Illinois and it worked flawlessly throughout the time we've had it (several years now). We have a SubZero home fridge/freezer and this little unit gets colder than our SubZero by about 3 degrees! It's very convenient to use and we've traveled over bumpy roads with it with no issues at all. I thoroughly recommend this freezer!

              Wynter 62 at dual zone
I've operated the dual zone for 2 yrs off grid. It is a power miser, good freezer and cold storage. I operate it using 24V and am very conscious of energy consumption and It's truly pleasing. I would give it 5 stars but the 1st one I recieved didn't work out of the box. The company really stood behind their product at no further cost to me. I would buy another one without question.

Tried numerous times to get technical support for questions regarding the operation of this unit after I first bought it - all my repeated requests were ignored. The unit worked fine for the 1st year but at the 13th month, just after 1 year warranty, the DC input failed. Fortunately I bought the HD extended warranty but as it turns out nobody in my area works on these Whynter units. After some haggling with HD customer support they finally refunded all my money so that worked out well - TY HD. Whynter must have been contacted by HD at some point since I got an email from them out of the blue about my unit. I again wasted time with them trying to get support. Its a heavy unit and worked well before it failed. Whynter customer/technical support however is worthless and I won't be buying a replacement from them. Dometic is my next go to source.

nice Refrigerator or Freezer or both!!
I compared a few models. Some much more expensive a few less expensive. We installed in in our Diesel Pusher (RV) bay. I was worried that i would shut off during power switches from driving (inverter) to generator, to shore power! Never did.. I kept checking and it switches over just fine without needing to be powering back on! It maintains hard frozen in Freezer and everywhere in between! no problem! Very low Amp pull ! So far its been working great!

I'm a over the road truck driver, I was looking for something to keep food in my Semi. Even with the price being a little high and the size right at the limit of what fits in my truck. This unit has worked great, the adjustable sides make it ideal for storing different types of food in my truck. After a few weeks of bouncing down the road it hasn't shown any glitches and straps into my passenger seat quite nicely. I run mine off an inverter and it keeps right at the temps I have it set at. I also looked at the bigger unit and am glad I went with this one, because there is no way the larger one would have fit in my truck. It is a lot quieter than the Coleman electric cooler that I have used for years, I actually have to listen to see if it's running.

I love this unit in my overlander camper. I've had it for three years and would have given it 5 stars, except after one year it stopped chilling. I was not about to send it back (live outside of the US) so I had it serviced locally. The tech had to actually flush the internals with cleaner prior to recharging. Said it was filthy and looked like they did not properly clean before charging at the factory. That was two years ago and it works like a champ now, no need for more Freon etc. It freezes nicely and does not draw too much power. I moved the digital panel to the front so that I can see it since it is slide between cabinets on either side of my camper. Given the low price compared to others similar dual zones on the market, for me it was worth the hassle, especially since the cost of a technician were I live is very low.
