Decided to paint my own kitchen cabinets, instead of paying the lowest bid of $4,000. It is a lot of work, deglossing, sanding, priming with this Primer (2 coats), then 2 coats of a good cabinet paint. This primer has good coverage, it is thinner than regular paint, but it does cover nicely on oak cabinets. It dries very quickly and you must use alcohol to clean your brushes; it is not a latex water clean up process.

This product is just what we needed! Our home had dogs and puppies in it for 15 years, and mopping no longertook care of the "doggy" odors. Even 2 coats of kilz with fresh paint still left that animal smell! So on asking other breeders with indoor dogs, Zinsser was the way to restore our home! Thank you Zinsser! The CONS: This product is its incredibly thin And messy! Dont give up, just dont fill roller so full, and mask the floor. One thin coat is all it took us! It seals the wall amazing, no longer porous to release odors!

BIN is what I purchase to get the job done fast & right! It covered up the dark burgundy stripe I had for a border in the living room; now not a trace under pure white walls!

Recently purchased a home, only to discover after closing that the previous owners had allowed their cats to pee wherever they wanted. We pulled up the carpets, treated the stains, then sealed the subfloor with this product. I was shocked by how much it costed, but it was worth the cost. It sealed the floors really well, and the smell is now gone. I would definitely recommend.

The Zinsser BIN Shellac Base Primer performed exceptionally and covered the stains and patched areas very well. The product is thinner than typical latex paint so it was messy to work with, make sure to cover everything with a tarp. I used more primer than expected. The label indicates up to 400 sq. ft. of coverage for the 1 gallon size but I ultimately used two full cans for a garage ceiling of 440 sq. ft. using a roller plus hand trimming around garage door rails, ductwork, etc. In the areas where I used a roller, the coverage seemed a little skimpy so I ran over it again for a more opaque finish which is probably why I used so much primer. I've included a before and after picture of a repaired portion of the ceiling. We used the basic white rather than tinting. The primer cleaned up well using denatured alcohol.

Great product for latex over previously coated oil base, great for water stains smoke damage, fire damage, Etc the clean out with ammonia plus water so much nicer than mineral spirits! Use a designated primer brush with this one though, not your everyday go to cutting brush.

I struggled for years trying to stop leaking sap from a pillar on my front porch. Two sets of painters tried to correct it. So far, no more sap with BIN. Thanks!

The best primer
For those leaving negative reviews- this primer is not a recommended for complete exterior work, areas of high humidity, and if you apply it on top of peeling or cracked paint it will NOT fix it. If you read the label fully and can use this primer for what you need, you won't be sorry. I'd recommend having it shaken at the store and even then, mixing it for a few minutes before using.

    Perfect Painting of IKEA furniture
As recommended by Reddit, used half of a 1 quart can of this to prime my IKEA desk, which is particle board and metal with some chips. No issues with coating and drying to a hard finish. Now I’m ready to paint. Primer smells so do this outside. Using a foam brush left some brush strokes that I’m going to sand out. Not sure if a roller would be better. Relatively fast drying so by the time I had painted the hutch, desk, and drawers it was ready for another coat.

      Best Primer on the Market!
I’ve already bought 5 quarts of this BIN shellac primer over the last month for refinishing my kitchen cabinets. I wish I would’ve discovered this primer years ago. It would’ve saved me many headaches during my furniture refinishing projects. I sanded and applied two coats of the shellac and then two coats of cabinet paint using foam rollers for both product applications. Absolute perfection! I won’t use any other product for my priming needs. No bleed through at all. I highly recommend!

I bought this to cover a bookcase that was made of simulated wood over pressboard, I painted it with a water based paint after I primed with this Bin Primer. The liquid primer doesn't stink as bad as the spray can. I've used the spray can over patched brown paper drywall damaged patches.

If you need to seal tannins in wood to prevent bleed through into your paint, this is the product you need. Put on a respirator and gloves and do it right the first time with this.

I did a lot of research to make sure I used a product that would cover pine knots in the shiplap I installed in my bathroom. I am thoroughly pleased with the results.
