Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to our communities and the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Learn more about our commitment to economic responsibility.

Do you carry big outdoor Halloween decorations?
Yes, we have many kinds of huge outdoor Halloween decorations, many of which are animatronics. Make your yard the creepiest in the neighborhood with giant Halloween decor options, including reapers, skeletons, and witches. Dean the Deathologist and Skelly, the 12-foot skeleton, are two current favorites. Halloween inflatables are a quick and easy way to show big Halloween spirit.
Should I get a portable generator or an inverter generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for whatever circumstances life throws at you. Whether you're dealing with thunderstorms, blizzards hurricanes, tornados, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy power when the elements knock it out. When searching generators for sale, keep in mind that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. For safety purposes, always run your generators outdoors, away from doors and windows.
Should I make siding repairs before it gets cold?
Ready your home for cold weather by repairing or replacing broken parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in the crevices, you could be in for a real headache. Check brickwork and cinder blocks for cracks, and verify indoor ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roof panels for damage or rust that could let water leak in. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams. Lastly, replace chimney caps and vinyl siding if in poor condition.
What's the best way to store extra holiday decor?
As you prepare for the holidays, give yourself extra space in the house and stow away the rest. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Shoe storage and other storage containers remove summer belongings from the equation. Moving blankets can shield fragile items. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the space you've dreamed of.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are a popular present for birthdays, housewarming parties, and the holidays. DIYers know they're fun to give and to receive. You can buy gift cards online at homedepot.com or in our brick-and-mortar stores. If you receive a gift card, you can check your gift card balance online or visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you. Use our gift cards to shop online or redeem them in-store. There are no additional fees to worry about.
