Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers. This commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment, as well as our local communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Do you have large outdoor Halloween decorations?
Yes, we stock many gigantic outdoor Halloween decorations, including many life-sized animatronics. Make your yard the scariest on the block with giant Halloween decor options, including witches and skeletons. Dean the Deathologist and Skelly, the 12-foot skeleton, are two current favorites. Halloween inflatables tend to be less scary and are an excellent choice for homes with children.
Should I get an inverter generator or a portable generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for whatever circumstances life throws at you. Whether you're dealing with tornados, hurricanes, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy power when the elements take it out. When searching generators for sale, keep in mind that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. For safety purposes, always run your generators outdoors, away from doors and windows.
How can I prepare my home for the winter?
Ready your home for colder weather by repairing or replacing broken parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in any crevices, you could have problems. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roofs for damage or rust that could let water in. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams. Check cinder blocks and brick for cracks. Indoors, ensure ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. Lastly, change out vinyl siding and chimney caps if damaged.
What's the best way to store extra holiday decor?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow what you don't need to enjoy extra space. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Shoe racks and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. Protect fragile items with moving blankets. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you plenty of it.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Home Depot gift cards are a popular choice for the holidays, birthdays, and housewarming parties. DIYers know they're fun to give and to receive. They can be purchased online at homedepot.com or in our stores. If you receive a gift card, you can visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you or check your gift card balance online. Use our gift cards to shop online or redeem them in-store. There are no additional fees to worry about.
