Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, CFLs, and lead acid batteries for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment and our local communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Do you stock big outdoor Halloween decorations?
Yes, we have many types of gigantic outdoor Halloween decorations, many of which are life-sized animatronics. Make your front yard the scariest on the block with giant Halloween decor options, including skeletons, dragons, and witches. Dean the Deathologist and Skelly are two current favorites. Halloween inflatables, especially the big ones, make a huge visual impact.
Should I get an inverter generator or a portable generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared for whatever circumstances life throws at you. Whether you're dealing with tornados, hurricanes, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity after the elements knock it out. When browsing generators for sale, don't forget that portable generators are more affordable and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. Always run your generators outside, away from windows and doors, for safety purposes.
What home repairs should I make before it gets cold?
Ready your home for colder weather by replacing or repairing faulty parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in the crevices, you could be looking at trouble. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roof panels for damage or rust that could let water leak in. Gutters should be clear and functional to prevent ice dams. Check brick and cinder blocks for cracks. Indoors, verify ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. Lastly, chimney caps and vinyl siding should be swapped out if they're damaged.
How can I make more space for the holidays?
As you prepare for the holidays, make extra space with storage solutions. Garage cabinets keep decorations, tools, and more out of the way. Shoe racks and other storage containers take summer belongings out of the equation. Protect fragile items with moving blankets. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the right amount of space.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are a popular choice for birthdays, housewarming parties, and the holidays. DIYers know they're fun to give and to receive. They can be purchased online at homedepot.com or in our stores. If you receive a gift card, you can visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you or check your gift card balance online. Use our gift cards to shop online or redeem them in-store. There are no additional fees to worry about.
