Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates. This commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment, as well as our communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Learn more about our commitment to economic responsibility.

Are there real Christmas trees for people with allergies?
If you're set on buying a real tree, the eastern white pine tends to be easier on people who have allergies. However, it depends on the individual, the severity of their allergies, and what trees they're allergic to. When pine allergies are the culprit, try a spruce, cypress, or fir. Wash and dry your tree before bringing it inside if possible, and find out more on choosing the best live Christmas tree for you. As any live tree might aggravate allergies for some people, you may want to get a fake Christmas tree instead.

Are Kids Workshops offered at the Melbourne Home Depot?
Yes, the Melbourne store does offer in-person Kids Workshops. These free in-store events take place every first Saturday of the month between 9am and noon. You may reserve your Kids Workshop kit by registering online for the event. Each month features a unique and exciting new kit pack to keep little doers engaged. Kits include all necessary craft materials, kit instructions, certificate of achievement, stickers, an apron pin, and a Discovery Education extension activity. Any required tools, such as paint, are provided at the workshop. Customers who prefer not to participate in the in-person event can pick up their free kit in-store or order online at our Kids Projects Activities page to have it shipped to their home.
