How long can I rent large equipment, trailers, and tools?
You can rent a tool, a piece of large equipment, or a trailer for four hours or more. It depends on how long you'd like to rent them. Small home improvement projects may only require a rental for a few hours, and bigger jobs aren't a problem either. You've got options to rent these items by the day, month, or week, too. If you need your rental equipment longer than your initial rental period, call the rental center for an extension and avoid late fees.
When can I bring the tools back?
You can return the tools early if you finish your project sooner than predicted, but on time works, too. Just make sure to bring them back by the deadline listed on your rental paperwork. Please clean off residual dust, mud, and grime from the tool as well. If you need it longer, give the rental center a call to see if you can extend your rental period.
Do saw rentals come with saw blades?
Yes, power saw rentals generally come with blades, but we do recommend that you buy your own. Your rental likely won't come with a new blade. However, you may luck out and receive an excellent blade on the saw. Since there's no guarantee, it's better to buy a suitable blade, just in case you need it.
Do I need to refill the rental truck with gas?
Yes, please fuel up the truck before you bring it back. Note the amount of gas in the tank when you receive the truck, and be sure to fill it with enough gas to match that same level. If you don't, you have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Can I rent a truck or large equipment with only a driver's license?
No, you must hold a valid driver's license and be 21 or older. Depending on your state, you may require car insurance, as well as a deposit or credit card hold, too. We do not accept cash for Home Depot truck rentals, so please bring your credit card. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck. Some tools and all large equipment requires ID verification via CLEAR.
How do I receive my large equipment rental?
Depending on your location, you may be able to get large equipment delivered straight to your job site for an affordable rate — whether that's out in the field or at your own home. We'll need at least 24 hours' notice so we can adequately prep your rented equipment, and you'll need to rent it for a full day. In places where delivery isn't available, speak to one of our Orange Aprons for the best way to get your large equipment.
What are some ways to avoid penalties and extra fees on rented large equipment?
Treat your rented large equipment as any other vehicle: Make sure it's parked legally and that you obey traffic laws. Read the instructions so you're using it correctly to avoid damaging the equipment or injuring yourself. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are, as cancelling within 12 hours of delivery means you'll incur a cancellation fee. Make sure to return equipment by the deadline or extend the rental period to accommodate the extra hours or days you require.
