Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
LED lights in your local store cut down energy consumption by 98 million kilowatt hours. Many stores also participate in renewable energy initiatives like wind and solar.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to our communities, as well as the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Learn more about our commitment to economic responsibility.

Do you offer moving Halloween decorations, ones with sound, or animatronics?
Yes, we carry many kinds of Halloween decor that make sound and/or movement. Our Halloween animatronics bring eerie characters to life. Scare your neighbors when your decorations move and talk. This includes current favorites like Dean the Deathologist and Skelly. For extra drama, use a fog machine or two to mask the animatronics until they start to roar. You can become part of the scene by lurking in a Halloween costume and jumping out to surprise trick-or-treaters.
Should I get a portable generator or an inverter generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for whatever circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether you're dealing with thunderstorms, snowstorms or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy power when the elements knock it out. When searching generators for sale, keep in mind that portable generators are more affordable and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. For safety purposes, always run your generators outdoors, away from doors and windows.
Should I make siding repairs before it gets cold?
Ready your home for colder weather by repairing or replacing broken parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in the crevices, you could be headed for trouble. Check cinder block and brick for cracks, and verify indoor ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. On the outside of your home, examine metal roofs or roof shingles for rust or damage that could let water in. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams. Lastly, chimney caps and vinyl siding should be changed out if they're damaged.
How can I make more space for the holidays?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow unused items to free up space. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Shoe racks and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. Moving blankets can shield fragile items as they're packed together. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you plenty.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Home Depot gift cards are an excellent present for the holidays, birthdays, and housewarming parties. DIYers know these gift cards are fun to give and to receive. You can purchase them at our brick-and-mortar stores or online at homedepot.com. If you receive a gift card, you can check your gift card balance online or visit the North Shore Home Depot and ask a cashier to check the balance for you. Redeem our gift cards in-store or use them to shop online with no additional fees.
