Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers. This commitment extends beyond our stores to our local communities, as well as the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Do you carry huge Halloween yard decorations?
We stock many types of colossal outdoor Halloween decorations, several of which are animatronics. Make your front yard the spookiest in the neighborhood with giant Halloween decor options, including witches and skeletons. Dean the Deathologist and Skelly are two current favorites. Halloween inflatables are low-commitment decorations that make a high impact. Blow them up when you're ready to show your nighttime Halloween spirit and deflate them during the day.
Why should I get a generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for any circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether you're dealing with strong winds, blizzards, or thunderstorms, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity after the elements knock it out. When browsing generators for sale, don't forget that portable generators are more affordable and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. For safety purposes, always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors.
How can I prepare my home for the winter?
Make sure your home is ready for cold weather by repairing or replacing broken parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in any crevices, you could be in for a real headache. Check cinder blocks and brickwork for cracks, and verify indoor ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. On the outside of your home, examine metal roof panels or shingles for rust or damage that could let water leak into your home. Gutters should be cleaned to prevent ice dams. Lastly, chimney caps and vinyl siding should be changed if in poor condition.
Are sheds or garage cabinets better for storage?
As you prepare for the holidays, give yourself extra space in the house and stow away the rest. Garage cabinets keep decorations, tools, and more out of the way. Shoe storage and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. Protect fragile items with moving blankets. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you plenty.
How do I check the balance of my Home Depot gift card?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are an excellent present for housewarming parties, birthdays, and the holidays. DIYers know they're fun to receive and to give. Purchase them at our stores or online at homedepot.com. If you receive a gift card, you can check your gift card balance online or visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you. Our gift cards can be used to shop online or redeemed in-store with no additional fees.
