Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting CFLs, lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, and plastic plant pots for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to our local communities, as well as the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our commitment to economic responsibility.

What are some kid-friendly Halloween ideas?
For a holiday that's not spooky, choose kid-friendly Halloween yard decorations. Halloween inflatables and Halloween doormats are festive solutions that aren't as spooky as many other outdoor Halloween decorations. Ask your kids what's scary to them – they may be braver than you think.
Is it good to have a generator at home?
We've got the variety you need when searching for a generator for sale. Inverter generators are cleaner and quieter than traditional portable generators. They adjust to whatever power load is requested. This means they'll make less noise while they create less power. When considering different generators for sale, remember that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. Always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors, for safety purposes.
What home repairs should I make before winter?
Ready your home for cold weather by replacing or repairing faulty parts of your home and hardscaping. If water freezes in any crevices, you could be in for major repairs later. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roofs for damage or rust that could let water leak into your home. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams. Check cinder blocks and brickwork for cracks. Indoors, verify ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. Lastly, chimney caps and vinyl siding should be swapped out if they're damaged.
What are some storage solutions for a crowded holiday home?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow unused items to free up space. Shoe racks and other storage bins remove summer belongings from the equation. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Shield fragile items with moving blankets. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the right amount of space.
How do I check the balance of my Home Depot gift card?
Home Depot gift cards are an excellent choice for birthdays, housewarming parties, and the holidays. DIYers know these gift cards are fun to receive and to give. They can be purchased online at homedepot.com or in our brick-and-mortar stores. If you're a recipient, you can visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you or check your gift card balance online. Our gift cards can be redeemed in-store or shop online with no additional fees.
