Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting plastic plant pots, CFLs, lead acid batteries, and rechargeable batteries for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers. This commitment extends beyond our stores to our communities, as well as the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Do you carry tall Halloween decorations that talk?
Yes, we carry many options of Halloween decor that make sound and/or movement. Our Halloween animatronics bring eerie characters to life. Life-like moving creatures will be the talk of the neighborhood. This includes current favorites like Skelly, the 12-foot skeleton, and Dean the Deathologist, a dapper bartender. For extra drama, use a fog machine or two to conceal the animatronics until they start to speak.
Should I get an inverter generator or a portable generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for whatever circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether you're dealing with thunderstorms, snowstorms or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity when the elements take it out. When searching generators for sale, don't forget that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. Always run your generators outside, away from windows and doors, for safety purposes.
Why should I repair my roof before the cold sets in?
Make sure your home is ready for colder weather by replacing or repairing broken parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in any crevices, you could be looking at trouble. Check cinder blocks and brick for cracks, and verify indoor ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. On the outside of your home, examine metal roofing panels or roof shingles for rust or damage that could let water leak into your home. Gutters should be cleaned to prevent ice dams. Lastly, chimney caps and vinyl siding should be swapped if they're damaged.
What storage solutions do you offer?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow what you don't need to enjoy extra space. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Protect fragile items with moving blankets. Shoe racks and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you plenty.
How do I check the balance of my Home Depot gift card?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are a popular choice for housewarming parties, birthdays, and the holidays. DIYers know these gift cards are fun to receive and to give. You can purchase them online at homedepot.com or in our stores. If you're a recipient, you can visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you or check your gift card balance online. Redeem our gift cards in-store or use them to shop online with no additional fees.
