3.5y of Normal Use: Belt Tensioner Wheel Broken/Drum Cracked/Don't Recommend
I can't recommend this dryer. After 3.5 years of use the drum cracked at the seam. I've ready elsewhere that this is a common problem with this model and perhaps with other Samsung models. There is also apparently a pending class-action lawsuit related to this issue. I disassembled the entire machine and removed the drum to troubleshoot the loud noise the machine was making. Turns out the belt tensioner wheel had failed--bearings wore out and spit grease all over the inside of the machine. Also, the wheel itself, made from plastic, had been partially melted by the drive belt. I was also very surprised to see a 6-inch crack along the seam of the drum, and was shocked how thin the metal of the drum was. It was barely thicker than a couple sheets of aluminum foil. Perhaps this is done for energy efficiency, but it's not acceptable when it lasts under 4 years of normal usage and the warranty is only 1 year. Additionally, I can't say that the dryer was without its annoyances--for instance, the door frequently sticks, and you have to pull it several times to get it to open. Sometimes you have to pull so hard it seems like you're going to break the locking mechanism. It was also always very loud, as if there was no attempt by Samsung to dampen the noise. Overall, due mainly to the poor quality drum and tensioner wheel, as well as the very high price, I can't recommend the product. It will now end up in a junk pile because I'm not going to replace a drum for $150+ with a defective design that's just going to break again.

Disappointed
after three years, we started hearing thumping and then noticed a seam had split in the dryer, exposing sharp metal. the replacement drum is expensive (not including labor). repair it or replace it?

We really like our new Samsung's! These are welcome upgrade upgrade from a KM set I bought back in 99. I picked this up as a set on a great sale in December. Considering what I came from these are a super high tech pair of devices! I also bought the storage pedestals which make for nice laundry room cleanup! The capacity of these is huge and I can easily do my king bedding in them! So far they seem to do a great job at cleaning. I do notice that the time to do laundry is a more but but the water savings and cleanliness of the clothes is worth it. I am hoping that these will last as long as my old set but know that probably isn't realistic so if I can get 10 years I will be happy.

Didn't last - we've had it about 5 years
after a few years (started in year 4) - it developed a horrible squeaking noise and we can only use it for about 10 minutes before we have to turn it off. of course it is now out of warranty so samsung wants to charge the earth to fix it. my wife loved it for the first 3 years - she now hates it.

Great at first
my drier is only 4 years old. the first several years of ownership was great. no issues at all. now that it is out of standard warranty im running into problems. the dryer is noisy, vibrates, and sounds like i will have to replace parts. disappointing when you pay so much for what you believe is quality and proves nothing lasts like it used to.

Dryer died after four years
I purchased this dryer in February 2017. It was working fine until I started hearing a loud noise while the cycle was running. Similar to other complaints on this page, it sounded like shoes were inside with the loud banging. The dryer will not spin. To spend $1300 on a dryer that lasts for four years is a huge disappointment! It is better to purchase a new one rather than spend the money to fix it. It is definitely disappointing that there wasn't some sort of recall by Samsung since it appears that most of these dryers are defective after a few years.

Disappointed
i loved this dryer, however, after a few years, the drum cracked and now the cost to fix is over 600 bucks. so now instead of having a quality dryer, i'm purchasing a new dryer...i would have added a pic but the tech just put it back together. it looks the same as the other review that included a pic of a cracked drum.

Pretty good dryer but a few issues
this is a pretty good dryer, albeit quite expensive.
my biggest gripe with it is that the sensor often ends the cycle before the clothes/bed sheets are fully dry, requiring that we re-run the cycle a few times to get all the clothes dried up.
the other issue is that the lint filter is fragile, and has broken on us after less than 2 years, requiring buying a new one ($60). that is a bit of a let down if the lint filter will need to be replaced every 2 years or so.

Faulty Drum - common problem
i’ve had my dryer only less than 4 years and i noticed it was making an odd squealing noise about a year ago. now it progressed to a loud continuous thumping noise as if i’m drying a dozen shoes inside! i can’t even run the dryer at night because it would keep us awake! i’m learning that this is a common problem and it may be due to a split in the welding of the drum so it may not be rolling smoothly. samsung should take accountability for this defect. i’ve never seen a dryer go down so soon.
