Can this be used to pump a small patio waterfall?

Centrifugal pumps can pump a high volume, but do not have lot of pressure. It will depend on the height of your waterfall. p=hd. (p in pounds/square foot, h in feet of your waterfall, and d= 64 pounds per cubic foot.) Check the specs on your pump.

Yes. Make sure to keep float away from walls so it does not get hung up in the on position. Best to have sump at edge of basin with float to center away from obstruction

This pump needs to be in a sump basin so the water can raise the float. I would get a pump with a manual switch that I could turn on as I see the level rising or excavate a small well for the water to sink in and be pumped with this type of pump.

I need to drain a pond that has a couple of inches of sludge. Will this work?

It would be better if you just pumped the clear water above the sludge by standing it on a brick. If it's a fine sediment it should pump a little sediment but I would imagine that continued pumping of crud might shorten useful life. I would pump down to sludge and then use a bucket to scoop up sludge.

If the bucket is 24” deep, you don’t have to adjust the float, the float works at 7 or 8” water depth. If you want to re adjust the float, use screw driver to remove the float cable clamp, use long tie wrap to tie float cable (4” away from the float) to the nearest bottom of the pump, that means you lower the swivel cable point nearly to the bottom of he bucket. When the water raises to 5 inches high, float will works and start to pump water out .

This is the third Superior submersible pump I bought in 3 years. The two previous ones went broke after approximately 1 year in service (10hrs/day, all year long), just after the warranty was expired. It seems they are made just good enough to pass the warranty period. The first one failed to work by loosing the lubricant, the second one shorted out because of water infiltration through a leak in the gasket, and also had completely corroded screws and metal parts. I'm using them to keep the overflow basin of a pool level, by pumping overflow water back into the pool, which used to be originally performed by a 1,5 hp selfpriming pool pump. Obviously the power-consumption with the use of this pump is a fraction of what the 1,5 hp poolpump used to be, which did quit working after 4,5 years, and the replacement cost would have been 5 to six times the cost of the submersible pump. For this reason, even if I have to buy a new one every 13 to 14 months, I will still save money. Schouldn't be this way, but it is what it is, these pumps are not built to last much longer than the warranty period.

Great little pump
This pump came ready to install with the correct adapter for my application. All I had to do was place it in my sump, connect my pipe and plug it in. It only took about 30 minutes and I was in business.
