A: Yes. The higher horsepower will pump out the sump pit faster. If you are having water issues in your basement and find that your current pump is sometimes being overtaken with water, you would want to bump up to the next highest horsepower.

Q:Does this sump pump need a check valve if attached to a 60 foot long 1 1/2 inch discharge hose? In other words, will all of the water in the home run back into the basin and perpetually cycle?

Relief
Selected this pump after researching top 10 sump pumps when both primary and secondary pumps were found inoperable. The fast delivery option worked when needed ASAP. So far it's been working fine. Did notice that its rusting already but that may be normal. Otherwise seems to be cycling and pumping out the water!

How does the song go, "seems it never rains in Southern California, but girl, let me warn ya, it pours, man it pours”.
We can get a lot of rain when the storms roll through, and some of it was beginning to flood our backyard and patio.
Did a lot of research on the best pump, and liked the construction details, production tests, and warranty for this pump. Using it for our backyard drainage, it didn’t need to be the largest, and it has proven itself to be perfect for my intended usage.
I installed a collection box at what was the lowest part of our yard (also from Home Depot, U.S. TRENCH DRAIN 18”x14” Storm Water Pit and Catch Basin for Modular Trench and Channel Drain Systems with Aluminum Grate), an Everbuilt Sump Pump check valve, and then ran 1 1/2” ABS out to an ABS drain line under our driveway, and continued that run down slope to off the curb. Anchored this box deep down with 10” lag screws through the box sides sideways to eliminate potential for the box to be floated by water. Placed the pump inside, where fit and room was perfect.
As stated, this pump works perfectly for its intended use. Rain water runoff accumulates quickly in the box, the float rises as it fills and in less than 2 seconds the box is emptied. Over and over and over. I have stood in the rain and watched it repeat this action effortlessly as the rain pours down. It’s a pleasure to watch a project succeed in its purpose, and have a dry patio.
I have the pump plugged into a waterproof passthrough into the house, with a portable GFCI at the outlet.
The pump is quiet, efficient, feels very well built, is solid, and has good heft. The most I have heard is a low hum when it activates. It has given us a lot of peace of mind now knowing that we won’t wake to a flooded patio when it rains heavily overnight.
I realize we have only started the rainy season as of this writing, but right now I am very satisfied with this purchase.

This product failed within 3 days--its switch stopped working properly. Repeatedly, this pump would stop operating even though the float was fully underwater. I would jostle the float a little, and the pump would start up, but then never cycle. An expert looked at the installation, made a small change, and said, "If it stops again, it has definitely failed." The pump stopped again that same day, and as my crawl space began to flood, I called the expert to replace this model with a different one.

Wouldn't recommend Wayne pumps if you want one to last more than a couple of years. Installed one of their 1/3 hp pedestal sump pumps a few years ago in my mothers basement. It lasted about 2 years before the shaft rusted to the cast iron and it stopped working. Replaced it with another brand and threw the Wayne off to the side until a few days ago when I brought what was left of it home so I could at least harvest the motor off of it and throw the rust pile away. Total JUNK!

I have had 3 major floods in a finished basement so i read the reviews to try and make sure i got the best pump i could buy. This item had great reviews and an industry leading 5 year warranty. Had in installed and it immediately stopped working. I found out that it is supposed to have a really thin rubber tether that connects to bottom of float and attaches to the pump. Mine was missing or fell off. In addition i thought this was an extremely poor design as the rubber will get dry rotted being in constant water and probably need replacing within a year. I called wayne and told them this and they informed me that this part was not covered under their 5 year warranty and should be replaced every year. Who ever heard of having to replace parts on a new sump pump every year!. In addition the pump had only been in my crock for 1 day and was already more rusted than the liberty pump i had in there for 10 years. I will never purchase a wayne again. Stick with liberty as they make much better quality pumps.

It's hard to rate something that you will depend on for long term durability when just installing it. Just 4 stars for that reason. However, it was easy to install and is extremely quiet.

My previously installed Wayne sump pump was still functioning ok but, not being sure how old it was, I decided to replace it a month ago for peace of mind reasons. The choice as to what to replace it with was easy to make - the same thing. I have about a ten foot lift to get the water out of the basement. The pumping power of this pump is more than adequate. I like the quality of cast iron construction. The vertical float switch design allows it to fit well into my sump pit and the float "guard" ensures that the pump cannot get close enough to the wall to interfere with the float. It is also very quiet. A great quality product. More than meets expectations.

This 3/4 HP Sump Pump meets all my expectations:
- Power is enough to clear water from 5 feet below.
- Installation is easy, about 1/2 hour if you have the Quick Connect Tube from the Home Depot.
- Just bought this pump on 04/20/2015
- It should be perfect if the Wayne Maker mentioned the quick connect tube or how to make it...

I am very impressed. For ease of installation, solid craftsmanship, and performance I give this 5 stars.
While doing my spring maintenance, I discovered that the sump pump that was installed in my house came from the early 1990's. It had deteriorated pretty badly and I felt like replacing it as a preventative measure would be a good idea. The model was a 1/3 hp with an outdated switch and float set-up.
After looking over the various models available, I elected to pursue this. Not only was it well reviewed, but it seemed solidly made, affordably priced, and more powerful than the unit I had previously. I ordered it online and took advantage of the free shipping.
It showed up two days later, much to my surprise, and I immediately went to work. This unit is magnitudes better than the one I had. It was a joy to install, I simply cut new PVC and threaded an adapter onto it with some sealant. The model I used was (http://www.homedepot.com/p/1-1-2-in-PVC-DWV-Hub-x-MIPT-Male-Adapter-C4804HD112/100347535).
Once completed, I cleaned out my existing sump basin and placed this unit on the bottom. After plugging it in, I decided to gather my wife for a test of this units capabilities. We got several five gallon buckets and proceeded to fill the sump basin. This unit kicked on and immediately went to work--it was quiet, efficient, and powerful.
