Answer This Question
A: All Ceilume ceiling tiles and strips can be painted before or after installation but we recommend painting the tiles before installation to get full "edge to edge" coverage. A few tips for painting our tiles would be: Be sure that everything is clean and dry before painting, Do not use solvent type thinners or cleaners, Experiment on a sample with your paint of choice prior to working on your ceiling in its entirety, Painting voids all ratings, approvals, and certifications. Consult with your paint pros at your local Home Depot to find the right paint for use on vinyl.

Q:Can I install these in a grid system where the space is 2 x 4, or do I need to order 2 x 4 tiles?
by|Feb 11, 2018

Answer This Question
A: While you can not install the 2x2 Fleur-de-lis ceiling panel, it is possible to add 2 foot T's to a 2x4 grid pattern to create a new 2x2 grid lay-out. Lift up an existing ceiling tile and take a look at the upright portion of the ceiling grid; ou'll see vertical slots every 6 or 12 inches. The trick is to make sure that the tab at the end of the new 2x2 T's will fit into the slot of your existing 2x4 ceiling grid.

Q:Can this be used as a kitchen backsplash?
by|Nov 24, 2017
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: Yes, you can use the Ceilume Fleur-de-lis tile as a backsplash. Please remember that the tiles are made from a rigid vinyl and are temperature sensitive so they should not be installed behind a stove top unless there is a control panel at the back of the stove top to protect the tiles from the direct heat from the heat. You would also need to order Decorative Strips to cover the joints where the tiles butt together. Q:I have an older dropped ceiling and they are not square pieces, rather large rectangles. Do any of your ceiling tiles fThis?
by|Nov 4, 2017

Answer This Question
A: The Fleur-de-lis is only available in the 2x2 size. If you're ceiling has rectangular tiles, they are most likely 2x4 tiles. HomeDepot.com offers 2 different Ceilume styles in that size: the Stratford (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ceilume-Stratford-Feather-Light-White-2-ft-x-4-ft-Lay-in-Ceiling-Panel-Case-of-10-V1-STRATF-24WTO/300269415) and the Polyline (https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ceilume-Polyline-White-Feather-Light-2-ft-x-4-ft-Lay-in-Ceiling-Panel-Case-of-10-V1-POLYLN-24WTO/301645051?keyword=ceilume+polyline) You can also visit the Special Order counter at your local Home Depot store to order any one of Ceilume's eight 2x4 styles in a wide variety of colors.

Q:Can these tiles be installed over a popcorn ceiling?
by|Mar 9, 2017
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: We do not recommend installing any Ceilume tile over popcorn finishes. The uneven nature of a popcorn finish provides a poor substrate for any ceiling tile installation. The junction of the tiles will not line up evenly from tile to tile and the resulting installation will look "bumpy".

Q:want to hang these on my walls as decorative pieces in my bedroom. can they be put on the wall?

A: No, the panels are recommended for ceiling installation.

A: Ceilume ceiling tiles have undergone extensive testing for installation in and on ceilings but no testing has been done for wall mounted installations. The biggest concern is that the Faux Tin finish is a very thin laminate. While ceilings are subject to very little abrasion or contact, walls are constantly being brushed against or touched. Over time, the thin laminate finish can be worn off. IF you are considering a wall installation where there is limited contact with other things and no contact to abrasive cleaners or heat sources, then a wall installation should be fine.

Q:can these be glued over a flat textured ceiling? (not popcorn)
by|Mar 28, 2016
1 Answer
Answer This Question
A: The determining factor in a successful glue-up installation is the condition of the ceiling receiving the tiles. Hold a long straight edge (a yard stick or level work best) tight to you your ceiling. If the flat texture is uniform without high peaks or low valleys, then the nature of the adhesive to "fill in" around the texture combined with the slight flex of the tiles will allow you to glue-up the tiles. The finished ceiling will not be as "perfect" as it would be if you started with a smooth ceiling, but the project will be much easier!
