A:  I would suggest purchasing two. That way you will not run out in the middle of the job. When the job is complete and if you haven’t open the second tube return it for a full refund.

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. When applied at a 3/8" bead, a standard 10.1 fl oz cartridge would be expected to cover approximately 13 linear feet. Q:Can I use it around copper pipes? It contains acetic acid - any potential corrosion problem?

A:  It will cause the copper to oxidize and won't adhere properly. You need a 100% Neutral Cure Silicone.

A:  Hi Sergey, good catch. Acid will chew up metals. However, content [concentration] of acetic acid in this product is not enough to corrode metal to any significant extent. After application CH3COOH acid will be gone in a few hours. [likely it just evaporates] Hope it helps! P.S.: Disclaimer. I never applied this product on metals. My speculations are based on "educative guess".

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. Because silicone-based sealant chemistries can cause mild corrosion/discoloration in copper/copper alloys (as copper is a reactive metal), their use is typically not indicated/recommended (without performing a test application). This performance characteristic is common to 100% silicone acetoxy cure formulas (irrespective of brand). As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "Corrodes some metals. *Not recommended for use on or near brass, copper or copper alloys, zinc, iron, galvanized metals or other surfaces prone to attack by weak acids." At your convenience, please contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you regarding your project and so that we can recommend an alternative product.

A:  Generally ,pure copper does not react with acetic acid; however a reactive oxide layer is formed upon exposure to air. The acid can etch the surface slightly to increase the adhesion to the copper. The acetic acid is released during the curing and can attack the copper. (green oxidation) Acetic Acid is the main component in household vinegar and is used as a cleaning solution such as metals. If you have concerns about using the silicone caulking to seal voids around the copper pipes try using metal escutcheons (metal trim rings)
