Q:1. Can I use female threaded to Pex crimp elbows to attach PEX to the inlets and shower outlet? 2. Can stainless steel pipe be used instead of galvanized for the tub spout? I'm trying to find a solution that doesn't involve sweating copper & I know galvanized steel isn't ideal for hard water (I have water with a high iron sediment content & no water softener/filter). 3. Will the water still come out when I turn it to hot even if the water has not warmed up yet (for some reason it takes several minutes for the hot water to reach my faucets & it won't heat up unless the water runs until the hot water comes out).

A:  Unable to answer 1 & 2. Regarding #3. Will the water still come out when I turn it to hot even if the water has not warmed up yet (for some reason it takes several minutes for the hot water to reach my faucets & it won't heat up unless the water runs until the hot water comes out). Answer: The temperature of the water in the pipe closest to the valve is what you are going to get until the hot water in the heater reaches the valve. You may want to consider a recirculating pump so hot water is immediately available at the farthest faucet from the hot water heater.

A:  Yes but you should install integral stop valves on each side first or you'll have to put shut-off valves on the supply lines in an accessible place in order to conform to the plumbing code.

Q:Can this valve be used with an existing wall surround in order to just change out the existing tub/shower trim to this trim?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hi, you will need to access all of the tubing in order to either solder or thread them into this valve. if you already have this body... you may be able to remove the 'inards' and switch that part.

      by|Feb 6, 2020

A:  It can be provided you have access to the existing valve body from the wall behind the tub/shower so that it can be replaced. Installation of this valve body requires either brazing existing or new rigid copper piper to the valve body, or installing adapters if pex piping is installed. It is much more involved than just unscrewing the existing valve body and replacing with this one. I hope this helps.

        by|Feb 4, 2020

A:  The existing trim should match as long as the valve is the same as the one you are replacing. Ensure the model numbers match before you remove existing valve.

Q:Is it necessary to install this valve? I don’t want to get involved with plumbing

A:  I'm not sure if it was necessary but think so (we had a plumber do it)

A:  You must use the delta multichoice valve if you are installing a delta trim kit. If you have a different valve/cartridge (for example, a hans grohe cartridge) then the delta trim kit will not work correctly(if at all).

              by|Feb 7, 2020

A:  If this is for a shower or bath tub it is necessary. It allows the hot and cold water to mix so when it comes out of the spout you can adjust it to the temperature you desire. If I'm not mistaken, it also prevents temperature fluctuations when you are taking a shower and someone in the house turns on the hot or cold water.

A:  No it is not necessary. You won't have to get involved with plumbing OR showering.

                  by|Feb 13, 2021

A:  New or replacement installation - yes as it controls all of the water flows - replacing shower head or tub spout then no as your old one is already in place - replacing tub/shower surround then no assuming you keep old controls

                    by|Feb 1, 2020

A:  The valve has to match the fixture, so you need a delta compatible valve to use Delta fixtures.

A:  Thank you for your question, Dick. The cartridge will be included with the 13/14, 17, or 17T series trim kit that you purchase rather than the valve body. A:  Hi, RFK! Thank you for your question. The bonnet nut on the Delta R10000-UNBX Rough In Valve Body can be removed by soaking a towel/washcloth in a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water mixture and wrapping the soaked towel around the bonnet to loosen any hard water or corrosion at the bonnet. A:  This looks like Delta MultiChoice Universal Tub and Shower Valve Body Rough-In Kit model #R10000-UNBX which does not include a cartridge. The blue and white cartridge, Model # RP19804, is for Delta single handle tub faucets manufactured prior to 2008. Believe you will need the gray and white cartridge if your rough-in-kit is model #R1000-UNBX, and make sure that the cartridge is compatible in your existing faucet that you are apparently planning on reusing.
