Q:The instructions say 3lbs for every 50 square feet. So how does this 27lb bag only cover 385 square feet as in the description of the item? Shouldn't 27 pounds cover 450 square feet?

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your question. For new garden areas the 450 is correct. There are several rates of application on the label and the 385 is an average of them.

A:  They're very cagey about that: no answers anywhere, and most places that sell it, like Home Depot, do NOT include the page describing how to use. I am not going to buy it.

A:  Thank you for your question. Yes, mix Garden Tone into the soil. Individual plants – Sprinkle around the drip line of the plant. Row crops – sprinkle evenly on each side of row. Do not allow plant food to contact the main stem or foliage of the plant.

A:  The way I use Espoma Garden Tone is when planting I dig hole for plant, put in a little handful of garden tone, mix it a tad into the soil then put in the plant, water, and after water has dissipated, I then cover with ground soil and finally water the plant in for last time.  I don't mix the whole bag into the soil, just handfuls into planting hole.

A:  I would use Oceans Forest potting soil. It drains well and has goodies in it. I have grown a few single tomatoes over 4 lbs. in a 5 gallon bucket.

A:  Bone meal is made from defatted, dried animal bones that are ground to a fine powder. It's a mineral supplement. It's high in calcium and phosphorus. I really don't know if the particular animal bones are stated on the package, but I've never seen if it was. I think they just use any bones available.
