Answer This Question

A:  Not this one. These thread won’t match like thread. They do have some that will work if you search for brass compression fitting. Look for one that says 3/8 by 1/4 npt I’d guess.

A:  Maybe this one? I think it’s right. Your friend has shared a link to a Home Depot product they think you would be interested in seeing. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-8-in-x-1-4-in-OD-Compression-Brass-Reducing-Coupling-Fitting-801229/20717

Q:My 1/4" blue plastic tubing will fit right onto one side and my 3/8" blue plastic tubing for my RO unit with fill right onto the other side? Both will stay put? To be sure, is the blue plastic tubing measured on the outside diameter or the inside diameter of the tubing? Thank you for your previous answer!

          Answer This Question

A:  If your current tubing has female compression ends they will thread onto the fitting directly. If they do not have female compression ends and are bare tubes you would use the nut to compress the ferule onto the tube. Compression fittings grab the outside of the tubing so the measurement they fit will be the outside diameter of the tube. If you have to use the nut and ferrule please note they are one time use fittings and if you over tighten them you have to cut them off and use a new ferrule. Best practice is to tighten compression fittings by hand then add 1/4” turn with a wrench. Turn on the water supply slowly and then tighten the fitting with a wrench until it stops leaking. That will ensure it is tight enough to seal without overtightening.

A:  In order to properly respond to this question we would need additional information. We would need to know what size tube was being used with the fitting. In order to get a complete response, please reach out to Customer Care and they can put you in touch with the manufacturer.

A:  That’s a sleeve to insert into plastic tubing like the type that goes into refrigerator ice makers.

A:  The photo shows an optional (included) brass insert used with soft tubing such as vinyl, etc. The insert prevents the tubing from folding in on itself as the ferrule is compressed onto the tube.

A:  That is the compression ring. It slides onto the metal tube and grips the tube when the nut is tightened.

A:  That is a sleeve meant to be in settled into plastic tubing if used. It pops out when the nit is removed. It prevents the plastic tubing from collapsing when the compression nut is tightened.

A:  That's a compression ring to grab inserted pipe. To couple 3/8" flex connectors ~ my case ~ I discarded the two nuts and two rings and used the remaining coupling with two male ends to join two 3/8" female flex connectors.

Q:Is there an install video? These are not traditional compression fittings. They do not seem to work in many applications. There is a "captured" ferrule instead of a real one.

A:  No video I've seen anywhere, but it works the same way as a traditional fitting, you just slide the nut/ferrule over the copper tube all together instead of as two pieces, and tighten it down on the coupling until it doesn't leak. The package directions on mine said something like 'finger tight then an additional 1/4 turn', but that wasn't nearly tight enough to make it watertight. I had to turn mine a good bit more to get enough compression to do the job.

A:  This is used on copper lines as a coupling it's a very simple devise. If you had any knowledge of plumbing you will know how to use it. If you need more information ask a home depot associate.

A:  We do not have any install videos for our compression fittings. The captured ferrule works in the same manner as a non-captured ferrule. Please reach out to Customer Care if you need additional assistance and they can put you in touch with the supplier.
