Answer This Question

A:  The washer goes inside the tank where the fill valve penetrants through the tank. It seals the fill valve inside of the tank.

A:  I really don't know your DYI skill set. This is a repair thats easy to do. But can go wrong quickly. So keeping this in mind. Maybe watch a few YouTube videos. And decide for yourself if you can do this repair.

Q:The instructions aren't clear at all... In order to install this, do you have to remove the inside part of the rubber valve that comes in the kit?

A:  Oatey, yes , that makes sense about the flap. I was not planning on cutting that. There was a small black valve in the kit that I assumed was supposed to go on the bottom of the white tube, but the black valve was not mentioned in the instructions and I couldn't figure out where that should go. I returned this whole kit and got a different product that had more clear instructions (only a couple dollars pricier and with a longer warranty) and I had no problem installing that kit. Thanks for the reply, though!

A:  Yes, you would need to replace the ENTIRE flapper…not just part of it.

A:  Not an answer--I have exactly this question. The picture shows a "shank washer," and I have a black washer from the kit, but if I put it where it is in the diagram, I can't push the shank through the hole in the tank. Would appreciate an answer. Thanks.

A:  Yes, you do. But I reused the rubber valve that was on my old unit once I removed it. The rubber valve on the old unit created a better seal.

A:  Yes, the rubber washer has another washer in the middle that needs to take apart before install. Simply pull it apart with your hands. In the picture I already did it.

Q:Do I cut the middle piece out of the valve so it fits? The instructions down say anything about putting the valve on, let alone cutting the middle out of it, but I can't figure out how to use it otherwise.

A:  You maybe should let someone else install this part. Watch them install the valve so next time you'll be up to the challenge. But the answer to your question is no dont cut that part.

A:  We went ahead and took the middle plastic piece out so the value would fit and the remaining outer value mimics the original valve. It works just fine

A:  Slipkid, don't worry, I returned this product since the instructions were so unclear. I got another part that had much better instructions and a warranty of 7 years versus just 1 and only a couple dollars more expensive. I had no problem installing that with the clear instructions that came with it. You're right, it's best for me not to install this kit. Anyone who wants clear instructions to install something should not buy this kit.

A:  It would be helpful for someone to actually explain this part because my item didn't have the instructions included from what I can tell and I can't find the manual anywhere online, and this is supposed to be DIY-friendly, so.. if anyone can point me to a Youtube video where this is shown or can explain like a human to a human, please and thank you so much in advance!

Q:Install was quite easy & works well except the water in the bowl could come up about an inch. I'm inclined to raise the level in the tank by an inch by using the ballcock adjustment arm Is there another adjustment I'm over looking?

A:  You could try the plastic screw at the top of the valve behind the adjustment arm. This will allow you to turn off water to the quickly as well.

A:  That's the proper way to do it. Make an adjustment and check. Till you get the level where you want it. Then check it a little later to see if it repeats where you set it.

A:  Yes, you can adjust the water flow by playing with the screw that is at the top of the valve, it’s function is to add or stop the water flow in junction with the arm.

Q:Apparently my question was not answered correctly. I was told by a response saying if I adjust the screw at the top, it would adjust the water level. However, my original question was how to adjust the water level in the toilet bowl - NOT the water level in the tank. I already installed this ballcock, but the water level remains too high inside the toilet bowl - again, not inside tank. Thanks.

A:  To lower the bowl water level below maximum, you need a restrictor in the clear tube. There isn't one in this kit so you're out of luck. Several other repair kits I've seen have either a crimp type or twist-knob type of restrictor, that allows you to adjust your bowl refill water level from high down to low, whatever is your preference. You can save water with every flush if you keep the bowl water level below max, just can't do it with this kit.

A:  The toilet bowl level it based on the water line that goes down the middle of the valve. The bowl fills as the tank fills.

A:  There is a wing nut screw on the side of the float arm that is to be loosened and then the float arm will pivot on a (gear like) design, this is for greater water level adjustment. Then the wing nut screw it tightened back into place. The wing portion of the nut is on the other side of arm in picture shown below. For smaller water level adjustments, you would use a standard screw driver and adjust the screw on top.

A:  I am not sure how to adjust the water level in the bowl. You may try to make the flap string longer so it won't pull the flap too much. But like I said, I am not a plumber, it may not work. There is also a plastic screw at the top of the valve in the tank. If you unscrew that, it will cut off water quickly, you can try that as well. Hope this help a little. It worth trying, you won't break anything.

A:  You cannot adjust the water level in the bowl, this is fixed by the 'spillover' point designed into the trap of the bowl and cannot be increased as any 'excess water' will simply spill over into the sewer side of the trap. If you are saying your water level is too low and you are experiencing sewer smell then you probably need to adjust the 'flexible tube' to make sure that this flows into the fixed tube and allows the water level to be regained in the bowl.

A:  Water flow should be going through unless there is an obstruction. You may uninstall the valve and check from the bottom for any debris inside of it or try to blow air too from the base where the refill tube is installed.

A:  The toilet bowl maximum water level is a function of the toilet design and is not adjustable. However, the amount of water that runs through the bowl after flush, and during refill is adjustable in some kits. This kit does not have that adjustment, as you can see that the clear tube has no crimp or twist knob to control the flow out of it that goes into the drain tube / ie- into the bowl. So without this feature, you may waste water with every flush, because there's no way to restrict the water flow during bowl refill.
