Q:2 wires connected to breaker. Does this paticular breaker allow to connect 2 same gauge conductors to it?

      Answer This Question

A:  You can’t run 2 wires in the same breaker. Add another breaker and seperate the wires. If there is no room, take one of the breakers out and put in 2 “thin” breakers.

      by|Jun 26, 2021

A:  Yes you could easily fit 2 12awg conductors on this breaker. No you shouldn't, buy a tandem breaker and place one conductor under each screw. This allows better independent control of those 2 circuits, avoids a splice inside the panel and would not fail in an inspection senario. Check first if your panel accepts tandem breakers.

        by|Jun 24, 2021

A:  No, GE breakers are designed for only 1 conductor termination.

Q:Is a thql breaker the same as a tql breaker

          Answer This Question

A:  They are not the same breaker, but the THQL will sometimes replace the TQL breaker in some applications. Consult the label inside the panel door for breakers that can be used in your panel.

A:  THQL is the successor to the older TQL breakers. They have higher short circuit interrupting capacity.

Q:On this particular breaker there is a several ceiling fans and outlet strips that were not on there before and I think it is putting a strain on the 20 causing it trip? Going to a larger amperage be a good idea?

A:  General use 120 volt circuits are limited to a maximum of 20 amps by the NEC. Not only would increasing to a 25 or 30 amp breaker be a code violation, but it would also be a fire hazard.

A:  NO!! BY doing so you could cause to wiring inside the walls or the fans to overhead and catch fire. You need to separate some of the load to different circuit or have a professional electrician install a new circuit for then put some of the load onto this circuit. This is the only safe way to do it. Oh and by the way if you put a bigger breaker in place of the 20 amp breaker and it starts a fire you insurance company has the right to refuse to pay the claim, If you don't believe me ask your agent.

A:  The wire has to be rated for the increased amapacity and wire needs to rated ambient temperature inside raceway for the conduit or raceway location for increased heat due to increased load. Conduit fill and ambient temperature has to also be calculated for the conduit in that to see if it is within code parameters. I Suggest an electrician do all this for you so that you stay within the local electrical codes and for your own safety

A:  Hi GilSandoval, I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site. The duty of a circuit breaker is to protect the wiring in your home or business from becoming overloaded. DO NOT place a breaker of additional amp rating on wire that is never intended to withstand such amperage. Separate the excessive load by dispersing the power demand over additional circuits, not by changing the breaker. Too much demand on a limited circuit will cause excessive heat along the supply wiring, thus creating the likelihood of a fire. Going to a larger amperage is NOT a good idea. Thank you for asking, -Travis

A:  If it’s a 12 guage wire you have to stick with a 20 amp. If it’s tripping then you might have a weak breaker. Try replacing and that might solve the problem and if it does not then the circuits are overloaded.

Q:I need to replace a GE breaker which is a single pole. The only thing that appears as a model number is RV 2242. Is a GE THQL 1120 the correct breaker to replace it with?

A:  Hi Hunter, I reached out to G.E. technical folks, who searched their data bases and did not find a circuit breaker with RV 2242 as a model. The circuit breaker THQL should only be used in a G.E. load center. You will have to bring the circuit breaker into the store to see if we can match what breaker you have.

A:  The number you provided is of no use to identify the breaker. Most likely you need a THQL breaker, but I would recommend either taking a picture of a current breaker or taking one into the store to be matched with a THQL breaker.
