Answer This Question

A:  On your screen at the very top are four categories (wall, masonry, softwood and hardwood). Use the "mode" button to select your category. Place the face of the tool on the material to be tested. The tool will then give you the moisture percentage as well as the digital display (in lights) as to dry (green) up to wet (red). Hope this helps.

Q:Can you use this meter on tile? I took a reading and it showed moisture on tile but not subfloor.

    Answer This Question

A:  glazed tile is an impervious material (does not absorb water) and would not be able to demonstrate moisture truthfully. Other tiles will absorb water, and be slow in evaporating the moisture. Difficult to answer without knowing the type of tile used.

A:  Hi Kammy, tile is a high density material and might always show high moisture reading on the meter. The best is to compare in relative reading only and you would need a reference tile that you know is dry. If you need additional assistance with your application please call us at 844-841-9878. Thanks!

A:  From my experience with the device, I think it should. I assume you have finished basement walls, hence its not easy to find the leak. If the drywall is absorbing water/moisture, you should be able to use this device to find the dry/wet areas. When I had a roof leak I was defintely able to detect wet areas of drywall with this meter. Best of luck!

A:  Hi Dale, you can use the wall setting for carpet. It gives you a relative reading. You can refer to the LED bar for general guidance. Please give us a call at 844-841-9878 if you have further questions regarding your application. One of our product specialists will be more than happy to assist you. Thanks!

A:  This particular tool does not have a setting for carpet. It would detect moisture in the carpet but it would be an unreliable read-out. Try comparing with several different materials and build a consistency of read-outs. Still though...

A:  This is not dry. I typically wait until a moisture of 5-15 before I'll work a piece of wood. If you were to join this wood at this moisture level you may see cracking and/or warping as the wood dries over time.

A:  Hi, our meter works the best with untreated wood. If the wood are treated (which could be the case for some woods used for decks), the result might not be accurate. We also offer a pin type moisture meter. (http://www.homedepot.com/p/General-Tools-Pin-Type-Digital-Moisture-Meter-with-LCD-Display-MMD4E/100651808?keyword=mmd4e). Q:Does the moisture readings changed when the weather humidity changed? My readings are different everyday. One day it is 18% so I thought my wood is about to dry, then the next day it goes up to 25%. What is the reading considered to be dry for hardwood? I looked up on the internet, it indicates 14%. Can someone shed some light?

A:  Humidity plays a big part in readings changing slightly day to day. 25% is nothing to worry about. When your in the danger zone the meter goes red and beeps. My WW Crest condo with water pouring in between the walls has made me very familiar!
