A: Yes, you can spray oil based paint through the Magnum ProX 17. If the material is flammable hot solvent based you'll want to make sure to get the lacquer conversion kit 17L305.

Answer This Question
A: zinger 123 is a good product, but you may want to contact them for cutting directions. Zinnser can be pretty thick so I would use the correct size tip and ratios and you should be fine.

A: Zinsser has multiple types of 123 primes. The water based is fine, but the solvent based versions will need a lacquer conversion kit part # 17J873.

Q:how do you keep spraying without clogging?
by|Sep 15, 2017

Answer This Question
A: I just didn't have clogging problems painting the whole exterior of a 1,200 sq ft house over two days. I was using regular Behr standard quality exterior latex paint and was DILLIGENT about cleaning everything between sessions. It is also pretty important to have everything ready to go so that once you start spraying you don't stop except to change buckets. Tape/cover windows and doors, prune bushes, mask anything you don't want painted, so you can just keep the spray going.

A: Use a strainer for your paint before filling your machine and keep it cover with a wet rag over the bucket.

Answer This Question
A: The sprayer includes a 50' hose, spray gun, .17 tip and a small bottle of pump armor. It is a full kit to start spraying.
by|May 5, 2023
A: Yes, it was a 50' hose and a gun with a single nozzle/tip. The tip was suitable for spraying unthinned latex paint.

Q:Can the Magnum ProX17 spray a water based primer (eg. Kilz) and if so, can it spray without thinning the primer?
by|Jul 29, 2017

Answer This Question
A: Due to the viscosity of Kilz, I usually recommend a bigger sprayer such as a 210es to spray it properly.

Q:Does this unit have a 5 gal attachment? Does the base extend to support 5 gal?

Answer This Question
A: Can stand a 5 gal can next to unit. Hose flexes to go into cap in lid and reach bottom. No need to elevate machine.

A: Submitted my first answer via a cell phone and I suck at using those little keyboards. I painted a 1,200 sq ft house's exterior with this machine and 5 gal buckets. You put the 5 gal bucket next to the machine and the intake hose for the paint will flex sufficiently to reach (almost) to the bottom of the bucket. The filter at the end of the intake hose will fit through the cap of the 5 gal bucket so you can use the sprayer without removing the whole lid.
One issue I had was that when I attempted to move the sprayer and bucket it was a little bit of a challenge to move both together (by myself). I didn't want to remove the intake hose from the bucket and risk having it flop into the dirt. I managed to make the moves but each time I lost my prime and had to go through the priming process. Not a huge inconvenience but it was something I had to deal with. The 50' hose meant I could spray the whole exterior from just two locations.
If you are going to be doing larger projects you may want to consider the version with the cart or rig your own cart from a 4-wheel mover's dolly (what I'll do next time).
All in all I loved this machine and am very glad I bought it.

Q:What is meant by "Hot Solvents"? I understand Lacquer requires a conversion kit. Can you run chemical Brush cleaner or "Goof-off" through the machine to clean it?

Answer This Question
A: If the material the material that has a flash point less than 100F or flammable. Basically anything that is not water or 100% mineral spirits. Your manual should list what each sprayer can pump through the unit. I would not recommend Goof-off. The paint or material will tell you the appropriate clean up solvent, just make sure it is okay for the sprayer.
