A:  This desk didn't have a strong odor of paint. I use it as my office desk and it does not smell of paint.

A:  I just purchased this desk and it is not finished on the back. So this answer to this question from Home Depot is incorrect.

A:  It is approximately 17 inches from inside to inside

A:  Yes, it does easily.

A:  14 3/4" deep. 16 7/8" wide. 2 3/8" tall. When the drawer is pulled out, the opening is 10 1/4" deep with the remaining depth inside the desk.

A:  Yes, it does fit a 13 in laptop with plenty of extra space.  The dimensions are 17”L x 15”W x 2.5”D

A:  I think it is real wood.  It certainly looks like it!

A:  Yes you can install without the lower shelf but for me the lower shelf provides a space that is at the bottom rear of the desk as well it provides extra support to the Beauitful desk, so basically can have the freedom to sit at the desk without the shelve taking space away. In my opinion.
