A:  You can soak them if you like, but you do not have to soak them they work both ways. I think soaking would create more smoke but I used them dry and had plenty of smoke.

          by|Apr 21, 2019

A:  Yes, but I've also used wine and beer. A dark wine like port is best. Also a dark beer

A:  We don't and it works great. We've never tried soaking the chips so not sure how that works. We do use our smoker at least once a week.

          by|Apr 22, 2019

A:  It depends on the type of smoker that you use. Electric smokers specify dry chips. This will create a lot of smoke. In a grill or propane smoker you can soak the chips. Wet chips will produce less smoke than dry. Packaged chips retain some moisture.

A:  I would think so it’s smoke flavor you get from the chips . The apple chips arent as bold a flavor as the mesquite chips.. I alternate the two when I use my smoker..

A:  The woods chips are to add a hickory flavor to your food. You soak them in water before you BBQ...so they don’t burn. Then after soaking and when you start your BBQ, you drain the water and add the chips to your charcoal or grill. The smell is soooo good!

Our best recommendation would be to contact the maker of the pellets to verify their safety precautions in a smoker unit.

A:  Great question! The chips are not designed to start or keep a fire going. We recommend our regular briquets for that. The chips are meant to be soaked in water, so they smolder and not burn while adding flavor to your meal! Just before you put your pizza in to cook, pile your wood chips along side your pizza area and get the chips smoking (fan with magazine if needed). If you were to add the chips to the wood fire directly....they would just go up in flames pronto. You want smoke not fire when adding the apple or any other flavor to be imparted. I think you will love smoking with flavors...try them all!
