Klein Tools model # MM400
Yes, Klein Multimeters are compatible with other manufacturers' test leads.
Sorry I was not 100% clear. I am NOT talking about the removable caps. I'm talking about inside. When you look inside a lead, where it connects to the multimeter, you do not see metal as expected, but instead see rounded plastic. I was tempted to try to remove the plastic. I take it that would be a mistake. The manual did not mention anything about inside the test leads. Or I missed that part. I was reluctant to plug in the leads, was concerned the plastic would get stuck. It did not get stuck. The meter worked perfectly.
I have this meter, This protects the end of the meter probe and the connection on the meter.
I talked with Chuck at Klein Tools headquarters. He said the plastic inside the test leads has nothing to do with safety or arc prevention or shock prevention. I don't see how anybody could get shocked. Chuck said the plastic was purely to make the leads fit more snugly over time, that some customers has mentioned about not snug enough. Maybe it costs less for them this way. Anyway, the meter and leads work fine.
The manufacturer has added this as a safety precaution in case someone has the test leads energized, and, also has them disconnected from the multimeter. Thus preventing a potentially lethal shock.
The test leads have removable caps to protect the leads when not in use.
Perfect for what I needed and a good price.

Yes and all your household items
Yes, the MM400 Multimeter can be used for basic electrical measurements in automobile applications.
It can be used for car battery voltage testing & to see if alternator Is charging. If your wanting to do a load test on car battery, You will need a battery load test meter.
Yes. I bought it specifically to set the input sensitivity on my JL Audio amplifier (as Klein meters are very accurate) but it can be used to test voltage, amps, ohms, etc, whatever you need in electrical.
Yes. This was the first thing I used this meter for.
